Hello.

I don't have Wizardry 6 on GoG, since I already own it on CD-ROM, but I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me how they have it configured in DOSBox (by default). I've never been able to figure out a good setting for it; it's always too fast in one section, so I lower the cycles, and then it slows way down again, and I have to raise the cycles. Not the most enjoyable way to play the game.

The only alternative I've been able to find is to emulate the Amiga version of the game, which isn't too terribly convenient for me.

GOG's speed settings are the same as the default; cyclesup and cyclesdown have both been set to 1000 to make it easier to make large, consistent adjustments.

If you find the particular speeds that work well for what you're wanting you can set up those keys to move to that number in a couple of presses so you can essentially toggle between the two modes as needed.

For some games there simply is no particular cycle setting that makes all game features work at a proper speed.

Pretty much what he said.

I changed my up and down cycle percent to 20 as I am playing through my own dosbox config/setup. I press CTRL+F11 or F12 pretty much up and down every combat encounter. The default for dosbox is 3000 cycles which I dial down to around 2000-2500 for general exploring. Seems to make the popping not quite as nerve wracking. then for combat I end up cycling up to 3500-7000 depending on how trivial the combat is / is not.

I suppose nobody ever wrote a method for DosBox to dynamically adjust cycles based on program load. Not sure if that can even be done...Kind of like I wish sound levels on a television would dynamically adjust to always be the same no matter if a commercial for Crazy Eddie or someone whispering in a thriller movie...
