Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga (I-III) - SNES Version has an English Translation and can be played via Emulation. I prefer the PSP but you could use the PC. I love the textures, auto-mapping, and other effects. Never have played the Wizardry: New Age of Llylgamyn (IV-V) but would like too.

As for 1-5 coming - I have a theory:

6-7-8 were released as a promo / marketing stunt for the Online game. Look at the installer which has prominent Wizardry Online Advertising. I think we should be glad to have 6-7-8 but I do not think 1-5 will be coming any time soon sadly.

I haven't seen any news or info on Wiz 1 - 5 in a year and a half . I was wondering if GOG has made any progress in getting Wizardry 1 - 5 yet?

How many people would buy Wizardry 1-5 anyway, let alone play them after seeing that ancient wireframe graphics?
The Bard's Tale games were far easier on the eye and more user friendly than the early Wizardry games, but I never see anyone discussing the old BT games in the Bard's Tale sub-forum.
Personally I enjoyed and played (for the first time) Wiz 1-5 the past few months, but then I'm a relic of the past, a dinosaur surrounded by consoletards, and I highly doubt the old Wizardries will appeal to modern "normal" gamers.

I'm like you - a relic. I'd buy and play them and the original Bard's Tale series (even though I have Ultimate Wizardry Archives and one of the Ultimate RPG Archives CDs). What can I say? I enjoy the older games.

Another one I'd love to see is Deathlord, though sadly it never had a PC port. I played it a lot on my C=64.

I remember playing Wizardry V on SNES. I had lots of fun. Guess that also makes me a dinosaur :) But on other side, after reading about some earlier Wizardries, I am not sure I'd enjoy all of the earlier ones (the one where you play as bad guy comes to mind)..

I used to play the series on the Commodore 64 (only the first three - IV and V weren't released for the C-64 that I recall). Finished the first two but never finished the third. Later, I played V on the SNES and replayed the first on the NES. VI I played on the Amiga. A few years ago I finally played all of them through the Ultimate Wizardry Archives (except for 8). I still haven't finished 8, nor have I found a copy of Wizardry Nemesis yet (at least not for a truckload of money for a used CD-only copy).

One of these days my Wizardry collection will be complete (at least the US releases, heh).

$35 later I discover the hard way that the PC-Engine (TG-16) versions of Wizardry 1-5 do NOT have English options the way the PlayStation versions do.

It depends on how you want to acquire your copy. Every old classic that is available on GOG and Steam I have purchased. There are a bunch that aren't commercially available in any form. The Gold Box games, Eye of the Beholder trilogy, Dungeon Master 1-2, Bard's Tale 1-3, Dark Sun 1-2, and the first 5 Wizardry games. I have running copies of all these, and I would be glad to purchase all of them. But if they aren't available and no one is interested in selling them, I don't see much harm in tracking them down. The only person making money off a hard copy of any of these games now is the person who has it 2nd, 3rd or 10th hand at this point.

I agree that Wizardry would be prime for this treatment, simply because you can't even play 2 and 3 without a carry over party, and it is a hassle at best to move your files around in DOSBox. And we did just see Akalabeth show up on Christmas morning, so anything is possible.

Anyway, I won't advertise any sites that offer these "abandoned" games for download. Suffice to say they DON'T offer any of them that are available for purchase here or on Steam and instead provide a link to purchase the game. No one here is looking to rip anyone off, and most of us would be happy to purchase any of the games I mentioned above. Until they are offered however, I don't feel bad about how I got my copies.

Bard's Tale 1-3 are here on GOG. With that new Bard's Tale title also included are the three older games. Christmas gift to ya :)

I mean I've played my fair share of rpgs including all Might and Magic titles and Realms of Arkania, and Wizardry 1, but 6 is so weird to me.

Awesome, must have been a bonus I missed. Commenting further, I just can't imagine that bundling all those Strategic Simulation games into a couple of different packs (not just the Krynn and Pools of Radiance series but Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Menzoberranzan, Eye of the Beholder trilogy and a few assorted others) wouldn't sell like hotcakes as soon as they went up. They are all very solid games. I'd think Dungeon Master would move at least as well as Ultima Underworld and Stonekeep. Who owns the rights to these games??

Yeah, Wiz 6 can be a bit intimidating, what with all the classes and the ease of changing classes. And the beginning can be quite brutal, with party death striking any time.
May be better with a gradual introduction to Wizardry. If you can look past the wireframe graphics Wizardry 1 is a game that has stood the test of time surprisingly well, considering that it was made way back in 1981. 1981 is not just old, it's virtually pre-historic when it comes to computer games.
I only played it for the first time myself some months ago, and I found that it was a very well balanced game with a very tight design. If you are well prepared (RTFM, reroll stats untill you get at least 15 Bonus Points, and make sure your guys have max VIT (for max Hit Points and chance of resurrection, learn the monsters' special abilities and return the castle often) it's not very hard, at least not untill the final levels.
The Wizardries that followed were more uneven, for better and worse.

I think that's what I'll do. I definitely am going to play Wizardry 6 and 7 at some point, they seem like very deep and fun games. Just thinking of the huge world of 7 makes my mouth water. ;)

I'm replaying 6 and going to go through to 8 right now. If you like huge open-world exploration, you are going to love 7 so much. I like 6 a little more for some reason, but 7 is absolutely amazing as well.
There are little things in 7 that bothered me that made me not enjoy it as much as 6. Seems like even the early monsters had bloated hit points, and extremely high encounter rate.. and eventually bumping into npc's like Jan-Ette constantly started to annoy the piss out of me. The story was great, and the writing is very descriptive. Don't take me wrong though, 7 is amazing, there it is a reason why it is highly regarded.

Probably already been mentioned here in this forum a few dozen times, but I definitely recommend you play the dos version instead of playing gold.
