The Beastslayer Axe scores double damage against Beasts. The Light Sword and the Mystery Ray does double damage against Androids.

Does this category refer strictly to the monster info from the game or also, well... common sense?

For example:
Scorchers are in the "Beast" category, but Furor is not (he is categorized as "Giant"). Is Furor still a Beast with respect to Beastslayer damage?
Also bigger Crabs (Hardshell Crabs, Crusher Crabs, etc.) are "Beasts", but the smaller ones (common Crabs, Venom Crabs, Softshell Crabs...) are "Tiny".

The same thing goes for Golems - all of belong to the category "Android" (i.e. 2x damage with Light Sword), but Pee Wee is "Giant" again.

For insects it's even more obscure (if there were an Insect damage multiplying item): Here you have the same thing as for Beasts (common Roaches are "Tiny", but Gregor or Dank Beetles are "Beasts"), but there are also Wasps and Mosquitos, which are obviously insects, but belong to the category "Flyer".

My guess is that it's strictly about the category, i.e. those Giant and Tiny creatures are excluded from certain mulitplyers (the same goes for the flying insects), but I'm still not sure, and it wouldn't really make much sense.

The game's rules for attack effectiveness are rather simplistic, which can have some unexpected results.

I have noticed one difference between golems and other androids: Golems seem to be immune to instant death, whereas that is not true with savant trooper type androids.

Resistance to spells also has some unexpected behavior. For example, not only do Quicksand and Earthquake work well against flying enemies, but they actually work well because they have low Earth resistance. On the other hand, Quicksand has no chance of affecting mummies because mummies are undead and undead are immune to instant death. Meanwhile, suffocating androids with Asphyxiate or Death Cloud works perfectly fine.

Similarly, Freeze Flesh works on androids and undead, even though those monsters don't actually have flesh. Boiling Blood also works on such creatures.

In other words, don't assume that common sense applies here; it often doesn't.

*Goes to use the port-o-potty to knock Savant Guards unconscious.*

The axe works on any Beast (race) so Picus or Diamond Unicorn are in trouble but Ants arn't...
