Any idea why I can't save to the A: drive? It gives you an option to change it, but says disk error. I don't like to save continuously over the same save, or can you name each save differently?

Thanks

In Wizardry 6 you can only have one save file. It is called 'savegame.dbs' and is found in C:\gog games\wizardry 6 and 7\wizardry 6 if you followed the default install config. You can copy and paste the file to a different location and rename it if you wish, but you must always use the name savegame.dbs when having 6 call for it.

In Wizardry 7 (dos version) iirc you can have multiple save files you just have to rename them from within the game.

Wizardry 7 gold I have no idea as I prefer the dos version over the windows version.
For 6:
The disk error is due to the way DOSBox is set up. If you really want to, you can change the config file to add an extra mount line (with -t floppy) and use that, but it's much easier to just leave everything in the base Wizardry 6 folder (leave the savegame drive blank).

Alternatively, you can set up a subfolder in the base Wizardry 6 folder named "saves" or something, as that can make your life easier if you make a lot of backups. In that case, change the savegame drive to "\saves\" and it'll put the savegame.dbs there.

but it will still only use 'savegame.dbs' the program itself will not make multiple saves

Yeah, and it will only load savegame.dbs too. But you can at least control to some degree where it puts it. Plus, if you make a bunch of backups by renaming copies of savegame.dbs (which you should) it's a lot easier to have them in their own folder instead of mixed up with all the various game data files.

which is essentially what I said, you just happened to clean it up for me :)
Thanks for the answers.... will have to have a separate file at sometime. Later in the game a decision has to be made that determines the ending and I want both good endings.
Actually if you want a specific save....say when you have to decide which path you want to take for the ending(s) you can. Go to the game config screen and in the savegame area type in a descriptive word hit enter then save. It will save in a different save but will only load that save until you go back in and clear the savegame area, then it reverts back to the savegame.dbs.
