I kinda new guy here but i play a lot of this game till now, even have save from Wiz7.
Now here the question about samurai's lighting strike. I was wondering if this skill can activate with other than sword.
The reason i was thinking of using staff and wand weapon for my samurai, instead of monk.

I might gonna start new party but transfer item from wiz7, not gonna use team from wiz7.

Middle: Mook Ranger - Skill = Bow, Ranged Combat, Scouting (till 10), Sword - Stat = Str, Sen, Dex, Vit
Traynnie Gadgeteer - Mardas
Flank : Human Samurai - Skill = Staff and Wand, Critical Strike, Wizardry - Stat = Str, Dex, Spd, Sen
Human Valkyrie - Vi Domina
Rear : Fairie Bishop - Skill = All books - Stat : Int, Spd, Pie, Sen

In my games I have noticed the Samurai class skill "Lightning Strike" & critical hits have the same mechanic i.e, you get most lighting strikes in the early teen levels then they appear to drop off but then you get pure critical hits a lot more as you approach level 20.

That sounds like LS is influenced by level - as are many things in Wiz8, e.g. spell resistance. Early monsters tend to have a lower level than you do. Later on there are a lot of monsters with ridiculously high levels - until you are on a higher level yourself. Thus it may just be more common early because you meet more monsters with a lower level than yours. Not that I'd know specifics mind...

In any case LS is not that great. Those strikes cost a bunch of stamina and come as a surprise: you may even go KO from your own LS. Also I always had the impression those LS's are rare. Maybe that's me (the way I skill Samurais or something) but I never found it useful.
