Has anybody tried this?

According to some bug reports I found on the internet (http://www.oocities.org/grieversnr/bugs.html), there is this thing that if you save the game just when the Dark Savant appears, but before he says anything, after the reload he just stays there and will not disappear (and neither drop the fake Astral Dominae).

In this state you apparently can kill him by the "accident method" you can also use on Bela (i.e. missing enemies with ranged weapons and hitting the Savant instead), and he will also drop the Cobaltine Powergloves, which is not accessible otherwise.

I intend to try it the next time I reach this point in the game (of course with a backup save) - I just hope he will also drop the fake Astral Dominae when I kill him...

He will drop the AD, at least he did every time(~10?) my adventurers killed him in the swamp.
Note that summoned monsters(like all other friendlies in wiz8!) turn hostile if they are hit by a sonic boom,
and that it works best with earth elementals due to their extended range.
Low skill with weapon type, high damage and crit bonuses for ammo&weapon will help.
Also note that "cannot be fought with" entitites can be poisoned, so death stars may be a good choice.

btw he can also be killed at CC before he speaks to Aletheides if you dont walk down the stairs
with ranged attacks from the flanking wall
but his NPC script is required after the inevitable cam drive thats triggered when you walk down,
and since he is dead the game wont release the party from the cam drive,
only a couple meters away from pen and book.

However, my favourite for accidential kill is the Rapax Prince.
You have to open the door/tent from the side and combat move inside
so the game cant automaticslly trigger his NPC script which lets him disappear.

townltu: Note that summoned monsters(like all other friendlies in wiz8!) turn hostile if they are hit by a sonic boom,
This actually allows for an interesting (bot slow) SP recovery trick. It works as follows:

0. Make sure there aren't any friendly creatures around.
1. Start combat without any enemies around.
2. Have a fast character cast Summon Elemental and a slow one cast Sonic Boom, both at power 1. (This will summon an elemental and turn it hostile.)
3. Attack the summon with Might to Magic, while everyone else defends. Since summoned elementals have low levels and divine resistance, this will restore more spell points than it consumes, provided that the SP doesn't go to someone who is almost full of SP. Note that Power Cast helps because it gives you more damage without increasing the cost.

This sort of trick might also be usable for practice. I note that my Bishop (who was casting Summon Elemental and Might to Magic while testing) gained a point of Wizardry while testing.
