Has anyone gotten WCIV to work in Win8.1 64 bit? I've tried everything listen in the Win7 64bit forums and nothing is working at all. As soon as I launch it, I just get a WC4DVD has stopped working.

Sometimes I get the Virtual Protect error.

I've tried the various filters, compat mode, installed the DXRedist. Did did the new DLLs. Did the WC4DVDFix patch. Everything.

I then tried to install it into my XP VM, and for that, the vids work fine, but the game is "lifted" so you only see the bottom of the screen.
Nobody? Gog just had it on sale, surely someone out there has this on win 8.1. I'm dying to play it. 1,2 and 3 all work. Haven't tried 5 yet.

The game works fine for me on Windows 8.1. Have you done something unusual like installing to Program Files?

Failing that you could try using DXMCI with Windows 95 compatibility mode; that can reportedly resolve the virtual protect error.

Of course not. I know better than to install a GOG game into Program Files on 64 bit Windows. :)

Anyway...how do you run DXMCI with Win 95? It's not an executable. It's a DLL. I'm probably missing something here. Can you explain? The game is running in Compat mode.

Have you reported it to support?
I thought I was. Apparently, this is the community forums. Oops. Will do now!

Oh, compatibility on the main executable was what I meant; hopefully Support will be able to figure out a solution.
Yep. Comparability on the actual exe. I hope so too. WC III and WC IV are two of my all time favorite games ever.
SOLVED!

I had Team Viewer running on my PC as I use it for work. I forgot that once in a GREAT while, it conflicts with some games. (I have one other game it doesn't work with....the first Bioshock).

I disabled it...and bam!
