I just got notified that the DOS version of Wing Commander 4 was added on GOG as an extra.

What are the technical differences between the DOS and Windows ports of this game?

I want to know this as well. I always thought that the Windows version is universally superior, I'm wondering if the DOS version has some advantages over the Windows version. Other than working on more platforms due to DOSBox being multiplatform, of course.

I found a wishlist entry with like 7 votes that said they wanted it for Linux compatibility. It also claimed that you could patch the DVD video into the DOS version.

And I just noticed this thread. Seems to be mostly about compatiblity. Oh yeah, and the DOS version has subtitles.

Brilliant!

This is what's great about GOG. They DO care and things DO happen :)

I'm hoping I can get it to work on my real DOS gaming PC. That would be awesome.
Well compatibility was a huge problem with the DVD version :) You do have to just put up with the black lines though..

Hi,
Does the game work with cd-images? If that's the case you'll just have to press ctrl + f4 to swap the images in dosbox.
It actually mounts a folder as optical drive.
Thanks GOG! It took you 2 and a half years to finally see that this was MANDATORY, but I guess that's better late than never, right?
