Wing Commander III - Windows 95 Update

These files update the DOS version of Wing Commander 3 to the Windows version, which was part of the Kilrathi Saga.
The Win95 version was far superior to the DOS version imo. It had better music, better framerates and more.
This version has been patched with KSaga Patch 1.2 and ddhack 10.
This way I have succesfully played the game on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8 64 bit.

How to use:

1) Go to your GOG installation of Wing Commander III

2) Extract DATA.DAT to a new folder (just use 7Zip, WinRar etc)

3) Download the following file (Win95Patch.7z) and extract it into your new folder. Some files will get overwritten:

http://www.share-online.biz/dl/BNXKW1UMC2

4) Start the game with "WC3 NoScanlines.exe" for movies without interlacing or WC3W.EXE for movies with interlacing

5) Bilinear filtering and filtered movies can be enabled / disabled by editing ddhack.cfg (enabled by default).

Would it also update the sound to the updated music and sound effects from the Kilrathi saga, or is it just the base win95 version?

I'd certainly be interested either way.
It includes a new WC3MUSIC.TRE, so definitely the new music.
Ya, I liked the Kilrathi Saga version, it definitely worked better.

I'd love to see Kilrathi Saga versions of WC1 and WC2 also included on GOG as well. Unfortunately they have the negative aspect of having most of the star patterns and planets 'missing' from the skies. Definitely something that needs to be 'fixed'!
Updated first post.
Don't know what I'm doing wrong if anything.

But I put game.dat, into a new folder, and put the win95 into the new folder as well.

But when I click on the exe it says it can't find files on local hard drive, or cd-rom drive. It says the cd is missing, invalid or needs to be cleaning.

This fix is supposed to remove cd check right?
Did you EXTRACT game.dat? ;)
Ok got it now. Works fine. There is some weird letter boxing and jittering when in the ingame 3D cutscenes when flying off the carrier, or moving from nav point to nav point. Like its trying to flash a letterbox superimposed above the fly over sequence sequence.

However, I think overall background star patterns and nebulas, planets looks a little more crisp in the windows version.

Never noticed that the sky is black in windows version, and blue in in the dos version (blue doesn't fit the nebulas in the background very well).

That's also a weird point of difference between dos WC1 and WC1 windows, that in that in dos the star patterns, nebulas, and planets, and suns are on a black star field, in and in windows version its just a plain blue star field (without planets and nebula, etc).

Back to WC3 windows, also the take off computer screen runs at a correct speed, so you can read the stuff that is typed across the screen. That's an improvement as well. I think the movies look a little less pixelated than the dos version as well, or at least the color is a little better.

This bug is because of the movie filtering. ddhack assumes that those little scenes are cutscenes and starts filtering. You can turn it of but will loose smoother movies. Just edit ddhack.cfg if you wanna do so.

This is a "bug" of ddhack. The author didn't know that space is blue in WC3 so he made it black. I like it better this way ;)

Haha, well that might explain it 'why' the skies were made blue in the WC1 and WC2 Kilrathi Saga versions as well. To make the skies match in the trilogy.

Still I think, the black looks better, and it makes the background elements stand out better, and they don't look like the colors are 'inverted'.

Also ya, black skies in dos versions of WC1 and WC2 look better as well!

Still it might be a good future patch to allow for classic WC3 sky background or the new black! As well as patches to fix the WC1 and WC2 with the original black skies (and all missing background elements).

Also, someone please offer a way to get rid of the ddhack watermark!
I think I fucked up the process somehow because when I open either of the executables I get a black screen (with a logo reading "DDHack" appearing for a second in the upper left corner) and nothing happens. I'm running it on 7 32bit and I'm a bit confused by this.

It only stay for 2 seconed to show that DDhack is active.
If it stays, then go to the ddhack.cfg file and check if 'showlogo' is present. If it is, delete it, save and exit, then it should revert to showing for 2 seconds only.
This is amazing! THANK YOU!!!!!

Can someone explain the extract DATA.DAT bit please?

It's not a compressed archive, it's a .dat file. so i don't get what I'm extracting.
Ignore me. I figured out.

New problem is though that the camera just spins when in flight now :S
