It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'll just quote myself :)

"I had more luck with WC2. Special Ops installed correctly. Sadly the performance of the Win95 port is really bad. Sloppy framerate, bad controlls. That's no step forward compared to the DOS version And I would have to remove the copy protection (WC1's PC Gamer release has no CP). So I don't see any sense in uploading it."

But, if you really wanna have it, I could make an upload later.

EDIT: Hehe, you just edited your post :) I'll have a look at the CP.

Thanks!

Ya, I really appreciate your help on this. My disks are half the world away literally, and I can't get to them any time soon! In the past I was always hoped there would be a no-cd method to using them!.

PMIK: What is taewong's dosbox? Why would that help? (Forgive my ignorance)
Taewoong's build has a heck of a lot of improvements over vanilla dosbox .74

1. It's built off of the latest svn
2. It has been built with a lot of optimizations and speed improvements
3. It is chock full with features (most not needed for your purposes) built in by the community, not the least of which is mt32 emulation built in with the acquisition of the appropriate roms. Unfortunately its not updated to the latest munt 1.3 yet, but I'm sure it will soon. You really should give this a try for music, WC's adlib mode is rather lacking and even the emulated mt32 is a vast improvement. Plus its accuracy is always improving with each release of munt and is actually quite good in its current state.

KS version of wc saga has a host of problems mostly rooting from the fact that modern window's win9x compatibility mode is rather lacking. It's much easier to get a dos game running then a win9x one these day. but fortunately there is a community ddraw hack you should take a look at which can fix a few of the render issues.

The "patch" in this thread already adds the DD Hack, and upgrades to windows version!

Thank you for that hugely informative post! I'll try it out!

I guess if it has mt32 emulation, it would work better with the old sierra adventure games too

It works great with the old Sierra games, that have specific MT-32 support. Very good. ALso works great with Ultima Underworld, where you get some extra digital sounds.

One advice though if you want digitized speech in Space Quest 3 and MT-32 support you'll have to play the game in ScummVM.

However, I find that MT32 support actually makes Wing Commander I and 2 run a bit slower. Mostly in loading.
In fact they were disigned with it in mind!
Even the newer ones that support modern General MIDI standards have extra features such as extra sound effects that was made with Mt32 in mind. SQ1 VGA for example

As for WC being slower, not really while playing. Nothing I have noticed. Extra loading, yes. Games using mt32 are all slower while the game loads the patches to the mt32. But it's a few seconds and is worth it.

I never heard of digitized speech in SQ3; I thought SQ4+7 were the only ones and mt32 +SB works just fine there in dosbox. Fan remake of SQ2 aside of course.

After googling i guess there is a soundblaster sound effects patch which include Rodger saying "Where am I" but not full voice acting.

Right, not full voice acting.

But you can't have the voice or the MT32 on at the same time.

They specifically made a patch for ScummVM that allows both.

MT32 is actually kinda cool as it adds in some other digital sound effects like the door to the hatch of the space pod swooshing open, and a few other places in the game.

I'll try to reupload it within the next days...
