The Windows version of this game has been completely fixed and is basically flawless up through Windows 10. Find "Wing Commander Kilrathi Saga" on some abandonware site, since you own this game anyway. Install WC1, then copy/paste the files and run the patcher from the fix at https://github.com/Bekenn/wcdx/releases/tag/1.2 and it works great with no speed issues.

Not completely flawless, there are still a few minor issues, like lack of cockpit damage, that the author is slowly working on as he has time. But far, far better then what it was. WC2 is still very much in the preliminary stages and S01+2 haven't been touched yet.

The Dos Version needs some tweaks to work it well, but its still a solid game

The Kilrathi Saga/Windows 95 Version works flawlessly out of the box, also you can use the WCDX patch at wcnews to make the game run without the need of compatibility modes or Dgvoodoo2 or ddhack, Plus you may even use Reshade if you need some image filtering and such with this patch

unfortunately GoG doesn't support this version yet, though many people wants it.

Like they said before the Kilrathi Saga still isn't completely fixed.
Besides I played through the DOS versions (and expansions) twice and they aren't unplayable even though the variable gameplay speed can be grating at times.

Really. Compare. Now I only use the dos version of wing commander 2, not the first.

I´ve just installed the new tiger claw and it looks great. I´d never had imagined that the sprites could be modded and enhanced in a so old game.
