DVD version of Wing commander 5 (from Creative Labs Encore DVD bundle) had wonderfull dvd-quality movies.
It's sad to see, that the GOG release of the game has the original low resolution movies.

I tried to install the community patch for the original version, but it doesn't work (without patching the exe-file i see a black screen instead of the movies, and after patching the exe file the game starts to require a CD).

Is there any known ways to play the game with the hi-res movies?

It's sad to see this after the movies in WC4.

There is a way. I tried the method in the link below and it worked just fine.

For the record, the reason why Gog didn't include the DVD movies was there never was a release of Prophecy on DVD. The creative labs packin went with a DVD version of Freespace 2 instead.

Huh? There was a DVD release of Prophecy with a Creative pack. It contained higher resolution FMV sequences.

Again, it was never released. They used a DVD version of Freespace 2 instead. WingCommander CIC got the prototype direct from them, much to our benefit.

Edit: Ah I remember, it was the WC4 DVD which was released not the WC5 DVD so I understand you now :) Thank god the CIC got ahold of the prototype!
