Like Crosmando already said, you need a codec that's able to play .vob files.

I used the K-Lite Pack Full and the fully custom installation. There I choose only the AC3 codec, which is called ffdshow. With that, I had sound at the FMV sequences, which were the only parts without sound for me.

OK, CCCP worked for me also. Hate installing these 3rd party codec packs. Have had them f**k up my windows installs in the past. This one seems to have caused no apparent harm and WC4 movies are now working. Wish GOG had tested this one out. Fairly certain I have a typical win7 64bit install. Thanks all for the tips on getting this working.

Also, I could play VOB's fine in Media Player (win 7 supports DVD playback by default) BEFORE installing CCCP, but whatever it does made the game work anyway.

I was still having trouble after installing the CCCP codec pack, but when I changed compatibility settings of the WC IV executable to Win XP instead of Win 95, it worked just fine. Hope this helps anyone still having problems with sound.

I found the CCCP pack crashed my game when it switched between videos.

Digging deeper, it seems that the GOG team used the updated DXMCI component and mpeg2.dll from http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza/dxmci.html. According to this page, install the AC3Filter from http://ac3filter.net/wiki/Download_AC3Filter.

Did that and everything runs beautifully so far; no other tweaks or settings changes from the basic install necessary. (Win7/64)

However I still have no sound during the Dolby Digital Intro bit...

Yes, some codec packs included in various ac3 decoders. Things like VLC are ffmpeg based and would do it...

For pretty much every instance of getting no sound, installing ac3filter (ac2filter.net) should solve this problem

Thins like CCCP or K-Lite code pack are overkill in my opinion. And in the past I have had codec related problems once on a while.

I can play everything perfectly fine with just VLC, no codec pack needed. So did anyone try to narrow it down to a more specific codec? I'm not going to install a few hundreds of them just to fix this bug...

Oh and to any one wondering why there is no sound in the transition scenes i.e. the scenes where Mark is walking from point A to Point B this is just a quirk of the DVD version of the game oddly enough as the sound is too low to really be heard(I personally caught the faint sounds of footsteps in some scenes) or just didn't transfer right.

I have started to get no sound again from the movies so decided to uninstall the CCCP pack and install the ac 3 filter.
Now the game crashes to a black screen again at start up.

I uninstalled CCCP and the ac3 filter and getting Vob missing ewrror snow lol.
VLC plays the vobs fine though so they aint missing.
Anyone know a fix?

P.S. got rid of ac 3 filter ,VLC player and installed CCCP pack again.

Would also like to confirm that the file from here http://ac3filter.net/wiki/Download_AC3Filter did the trick. I used the 'full' one. Got sound in all scenes even the Dolby intro.

I do not mind gog.com releasing games with issues, but the fixes should be listed in a readme IMHO. Also, I did not want to install massive codec packs for such a simple issue (one codec needed) as I also have them FUBAR a windows install before.

GOG.com seems to be releasing more and more games with problems that they *must* know about and it is wrong that one has to scrabble about the net for fixes. Why not just include the codec with the install?
