Back in the day, I had some great flight sticks for the series. They were often a hassle to set up, but well worth it.

These days, all I have is a wired XBox 360 controller. Anyone know which WC games support it, assuming any do, and have any details on how to set it up?

I'm pumped to try out 3, since that's the only one in the series I missed at the time. But I'll buy the others if they work well w/ the 360.

theres various profiler programs that can bind mouse/keyboard functions to the gamepad of your choice.
personally i use Pinnacle Game Profiler, and it works like a charm but its not a freebie one.
there are free ones though.
just setup a profile and enjoy in pretty much any game.
haven't tried with WC yet though.

I've played through the first two games (not the GoG versions, which were released the day I finished SO2, but it should still work) using a 360 controller and the free program Joy2Key. Worked perfectly, and IMO was more comfortable than a proper flight stick, as the WC series' 2-button setup doesn't really fit a stick.

EDIT: Right, the DOS version of WC3 seems to have some issues with a 360 controller, mainly relating to the lack of a dead zone, and the full range of the stick describing a circle where the game is set up for a square (meaning it ignores any input while the stick is in the arc outside the central square). Hopefully there's a way around these issues.

Open the DOSBox Mapper (Ctrl+F1 in game) and delete the joystick entries from the problematic inputs, then bind the equivalent mouse or keyboard inputs in their place. This will resolve your problem and works for any DOSBox game.

You can use the Mapper to set up the controls however you want, even if a game doesn't natively support controllers, so you could use it instead of a separate program (I only use a separate one for Windows games).

I have had 0 issues flying and firing with the Logitech F310 gamepad in WC 1-3. I still have to use the keyboard for certain commands like autopilot and target lock etc.

I should add that the gamepad works well right from install without utilizing any mapping programs.

Are you using the GOG version, or something else? I've been running WC 1 in Dosbox with a D-Fend frontend. That seems to work fine for me.

This is exactly the issue, because the config screen asks for top left, and bottom right, the straight L, R, U, D directions are out of the sensitivity zone, which is a complete pain. Did anyone work out a solution, i'm considering buying a joystick if it cant be resolved.

Some say a pad works fine, others claim it wont...

Again, is there a way to disable the joystick / pad all together in dosbox and use joy2key?
