awesomead: Lets address a number of issues here:

If you have no sound in the cinematics: Install AC3filter
If you get no video install a DVD codec: Klite or cccp or mpeg2filter should do though some people have had varying success with some over others.

If your game doesnt run at all from the get-go, then make sure you either remove or disable your firewall and/or antivirus software the first time you run the game. Some people running ThreatFire have had to remove the program completely to get it to run

These steps *should* cover 98% of issues with this game. If you still have issues, some people have had varying degrees of success from also tweaking some of the compatability settings (switching to win95 or xp) and turning desktop composition on or off...
the WC4DVD.EXE Runs, my screen goes black like it is trying to play the video, but it freezes there. I've done everything you've mentioned here and it's still not working.

firewall is off, (cant uninstall windows firewall
AV was uninstalled (how is this a "fix" when my computer is now unsecure?)
Ive tried K-lite, then CCCP, then Mpeg2Filter

I've adjusted every possible option in the compatibility mode tab.

NOTHING WORKS.

We need to know more about your system I think. What OS are you using? How old is it? What CPU and GPU do you have?

Does the game give you any error messages?

Are your video card drivers and directx versions up to date?

If you have messed around with the install (such as overwriting mpeg2.dll) then I would also suggest starting with a clean install.

Also it really shouldn't be your AV software and uninstalling should be unnecessary as you should be able to go in and create exceptions in your firewall and AV software for WC4DVD.exe . Also are there perhaps other memmory intensive programs running in the background that could be affecting the game?

Barring that, when you say it just goes black, did you check the GOG installer to make sure the game downloaded fully?

I can play the Missions just fine, theres sound in the Videos but the actual Video sequences stay black.
Running the game on a Windows 7 pro system, with latest drivers. Tried the differen codec packages and also disabling firewall/antivirus software but nothin seems to work.

Really a shame, cause its such a great game...

tmcclain22: Is anyone else having a problem with sound? When I load the game, I get a silent promo about Dolby (ironic!) and then the Origin logo/credits roll, again silently. Then the dialogue in the opening scene is mute, but when I click on one of the choices ("Straighten him out" or "Help him out"), I hear Mark Hamill say "Straighten him out" or "Help him out". Any help for this?
you need to install the AC3 filter codec you get it here: http://ac3filter.net/wiki/Download_AC3Filter

Just a word of warning this will only allow you to hear the audio from the FMV cutscenes and not the transition scenes which for some odd reason were missing from the DVD version of the game. Surpised Origin let it slide like that of course I think by that point in time Origin was a dead lifeless husk of it's former self.

Did you try the AC3filter codec that seems to work for everyone.

AC3filter is needed for audio but is not a video codec. You will also need to make sure you have a proper mpeg2 codec installed.

I would suggest just unzipping http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza/bin/mpeg2dec.zip into your wc4 directory. Then run register.bat (preferably as administrator).

Weird okay try installing a mpeg2 codec and see if that helps.

There are no other memory intensive apps running, I downloaded this once via the GOG downloader and it was giving me this problem, so I downloaded and installed the "chunks" and it is doing the same thing.

No Error messages, and DirectX and ATI drivers are all up to date with drivers downloaded the day I bought this game.

And I JUST NOW did a completely clean install and it DOES NOT WORK.

ill get an error message once i start the register bat about a "dllregisterserver". Or if i start as admin, that the module cant be found.
Just read an article on WCnews.com about WC4 problems with the gog release:
Maybe it'll help:

Can you provide the exact error messages? Which verson of Windows are you using?

Iam using windows 7 professional, so i cant change the language setting for the error message from german to english. Dont know if its gonna be of any use in german.
Nevertheless attached it as pic. Above one is when i start it as admin, the lower one is without.

The lower picture message is about permissions as you said... Basically it's telling you you need to be logged in as administrator for register.bat to work. As far at the top message, are you using 64bit windows 7? This occurs when a dll dependancy is missing. Some dlls use external libraries. Apparently Micrsoft didn't include all the binary libraries that some DLLs use in Win7... I might be able to come up with a solution eventually if you can't get any of the other codec packs to work,

Its 64bit windows 7, yes.
i played around a bit, and copied the Mpeg2DecFilter.ax into the respective windows folder. The register.bat did its job afterwards without an error, but still nothing for the black screen ingame. Dont even know if that was a valid option for success, but i really want to play that game on my machine. So if theres any chance to get it to run, i'd appreciate that.

Have you tried playing the videos themselves in windows? Do they work?

Sometimes register.bat has to be run several times before windows gives mpeg2dec priority when decoding mpeg2 videos... Try running unregister and then register again. I've had people tell me they've had to do this up to eight times even.

Alternately, have you tried using the K-like codec pack and then using the included utility to make sure windows is associating VOBs with it?
