I think this game looks great, was always a huge fan of stuff like Starlancer and i missed this series.

I don't have a joystick (just a 360 wired pad)

Is this game "playable" with the mouse and keyboard or is the combat awkward?

Yup i play WC3 with mouse somtimes its very doable..

and Starlancer that was awesome too..

Another Chris Roberts game if i am not mistaken.
I know Digital Anvil were involved who did the CG for the crappy WC film.

Those Japanese fighters in Starlancer are a what you would get if a Dralthi and New Cylon Raider had a baby :)

I personally could not play effectively with keyboard and mouse.

If buying a joystick I would recommend something from the Logitech range as the software it comes with makes it very easy to map keys to the joystick buttons.

I went for the Attack 3 as I am a lefty.

I'd sooner play with keyboard alone than with the mouse, even though I loved the mouse controls in later games like Freelancer and Darkstar One. It's just not as snappy and fluid in Wing Commander in my opinion.

I'd mirror the above comments in recommending buying a proper joystick. I played WC3 with a gamepad for a couple of hours but found it far too sensitive and twitchy. It's very hard to hold a gamepad thumbstick 25% of the way in for 5 seconds, for example, but it's effortless with a joystick.

Does Starlancer work in Win 7 64bit?
