So, I tried to change the sound card to a Roland for much better midi music (I accessed the setup program via adding "-i" to the WC3.exe in the dosboxWC3.conf) but there is a strange problem: it doesn't seem to save (or import my previous) settings at all. After leaving the menu by saving and launching the gane I'm stuck with soundblaster sound again. It ALWAYS starts with the default settings (like the save path is C:\ (???), default control method is Keyboard).

Any ideas?

I don't know about DOSBOX, but in the old days within DOS WING3 had it's own setup routine you had to run to define your hardware. You may have to run this setup program or run WING3 in a way that takes your DOSBOS changes into account.

Another thread now covered this: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/wing_commander_privateer/wc3_running_setup_program

That post should solve my problem, let's see...

Edit: Nope, the settings are still default when launching the game. The game's setup still bear a serious problem. It forces to choose another save folder than my current one (which is D:\Games\Wing Commander 3) as it doesn't seem to like spaces.

Any other ideas? I just wanna change the sound settings and nothing else. :(

You might ask Vagabond (either reply in the other thread or PM), he has been playing around in the setup program. I haven't purchased the game yet on GOG, so I don't have a way to test for you.

I can confirm, that game somehow reverts to keyboard as default control type when running setup program. But it can be circumvented by pressing ALT-O while in a flight. From that menu you pick for example mouse as default control type and this will be saved.

I do not have slightest problem with changing music card..

Yeah, make sure you do "Save Settings and Exit/Launch" after changing your card/controls. Then save in game. By the time you load up that save game again at the control panel in-game, it will go back to the settings you had when you saved.

Tried it. The sound hasn't changed for me (still sounds the same, I still have the keyboard controls even though I have selected "Joystick" - I can select it from the ALT+O ingame menu though, that is working fine). Not to mention that the default save path is being ignored by the game (which would cause troble anyway).

I come to the conclusion that the setup doesn't affect my game at all. This is kinda frustrating... :( (and, yes, I'm running it with administrator rights).

Edit: It's saving my settings now. Not sure why, but fine. Thanks for all your help

TParis: snip
Are you sure that none of game files/folders are marked as "read-only"?
If PM me your email I can send you my config files - should work if you replace yours. But I can do it tomorrow evening - now I'm going to bed.

EDIT: Glad you made it.
