Why exactly is that the colonel takes orders from the captain? lol. Correct me if im wrong on this but colonel is just one step below general and three steps above captain I think lol. I like the captain on WC3 but thats always made me wonder. Only thing i can figure is that captain isnt his actual rank, just his title since he runs the ship but still XD

In Navy (especially US) Captain of a ship is a rank similar to 1st Colonel in Army.

True, the rank terms in the Navy do not correspond to the rank terms in the Army. there are only a few ranks above Captain and they are all Admirals. In most cases being Captain is the last step before being promoted to Admiral.

Actually what is confusing is that Blair has an Army rank instead of a Navy one. Try replacing "Colonel" by "Commander" and it falls into place.

There are two main officers on a carrier, the Captain who has authority on the ship and everything happening aboard (as well as everyone) and the Wing Commander who has authority on the pilots and who has the task to decide how to carry out missions that are relayed to him by the Captain. Technically pilots report to the Wing Commander who in turn reports to the Captain. A Wing Commander won't become directly Admiral but being promoted Captain of his own carrier on his way to Admiral is a possibility..

I see... well that kinda makes sense except.. wasnt Blair promoted from captain to colonel on WC2? lol
...I interpret like navy rankings, usually done for space shows like star trek - though Adama was an admiral in battlestar...

Official Terran Confederation rank list suggests that Christopher "Maverick" Blair was assigned to "Space Forces", not to Navy.

Well if they applied to Blair Army ranks (like it seems they did) then he should have been promoted to Major which is the rank immediately above Captain. As it is they propelled him two ranks further ignoring Major and Lieutenant Colonel. So it doesn't make any sense anyway. Army is not so generous that they skip ranks when giving promotions LOL

The navel ranks are captain blow you have commander, Lt. commanders, lieutenants, ensigns, and so on. But in the WC universe pilots are based off the airforce which in turn originally came from the army back when it use to be part of the army. In truth Colonel Blair probably has equal rank to Eisen but yields to the commander of the ship. "I'm not going to tell you how to run your ship"

Really I find kind of odd, in the US Naval Air Forces they use naval ranks, am I right? But there you have it.

The ranks in Wing Commander are confusing because the pilots are in the 'Space Force' instead of the Navy, which uses US Air Force-style ranks instead of Navy ones; there's a chart in the Victory Streak manual that comes with the game. Here's our online version: http://www.wcnews.com/articles/ranks.shtml

Blair and Eisen have the same rank (O6) in their respective services, but Eisen is in charge because he's captain of the ship. A ship's captain is always able to give orders aboard his ship, regardless of rank--so even if Eisen were a lieutenant and Blair were a general, he'd technically still be able to order him around while on the Victory.

I see lol. Okay finally it makes sense.

@Starfox lol yeah but I think Blair was promoted to colonel from captain because he had been unjustly demoted before. The top rank you can acheive on WC1 (If you have the expansions) is Lt. Colonel, so if he had made it that far, itd have only been one rank above what he shouldve been
