I remember I had to make a dos boot disc for it to work right, but after that had no problems with stability at all. Great game. Really loved the space combat in it and upgrading my ship.
I'd sooner vote for white hot fire pokers in my eyes. Privateer 2 is absolutely horrible - it's the Master of Orion 3 of space combat games. You don't even have to do anything, the enemies literally can't draw a bead on you.

20 minutes of infinitely respawning enemies just so I can autopilot through two sectors - woo hoo. Not. Just watch the cutscenes on Youtube, that's the only remotely entertaining part of the abomination that was Privateer 2: The Crash-to-Desktop-ening.
I am voting very hard. Hopefully EA will be able to recover the tapes and remaster the FMV a bit, since I'm pretty sure LCDs aren't so kind to interlaced video.
You got my vote too! I've tried several times with my two versions to get it to run properly but to no avail. I loved Clive Owen in that! 8)
Yep this one is awesome. Got me hooked on PC gaming back in the day!
Has anyone here ever seen The Spoony One's review for Privateer 2? To put it mildly, he didn't like it. But he does give a very glowing review of Privateer 1 in this video.

The Spoony Experiment - Privateer 2

Myself, I think he probably had a stroke of bad luck with this game. It doesn't look too bad if you can get the game to stop crashing. People here seem to have fond memories of it.
I'll sign this one as well. WC5 actually works on my computer, flawlessly, so all I need are Privateer 2 and WC4 DVD to be happy. I just can't get WC4 to work properly.
I'll second that notion! I'd love for them to finish out the Wing Commander series. I really wish Lucas would come off with the X-Wing and Tie-Fighter series as well. Rogue Squadron with all the bells would be nice.
Cheers!

I played it recently with DosBox. It works well (80 000 cycles on my machine) and there were no stability problems. I had 1 (one) in game crash altough I finished the entire main story with fully upgraded fighter (the one that costs 250K).

Spoony claimed that the enemy can't kill you even if you stand still. This may be truth but only in the begining of the game when difficulty is v. low. I can assure you that any fighter can kill you when you are stationary later in the game.. (although the AI isn't perfect in this game).
Haven't had the chance to play this back in the day,
but I always wanted to. So yeah, would love for this game to hit GOG.com.
Signed!
OH GOD YES I WANTS IT!
I just found GOG and now all I can think about is Privateer 2. If they make it, I'll buy a joystick and download it in a heartbeat!
i came to this site for this game! however, since then i have gotten it working with DOSbox...

i totally forgot Clive Owen stared in this game! course, how would I, since he was unknown (in the USA) at the time and i havnt replayed this since it was new.

some of the finest acting ive seen in an FMV for a video game.

id grab this on GOG.

now i need a new joystick... bascially unplayable with a mouse, for me.

Frankly I never had any issues with "Privateer 2- The Darkening "

I still own the original discs

Though not sure if i would want to try it with DOS Box

I know I would pay GOG if they release it
