This is my favourite topic

Upon playing the first mission I am clueless as to how to complete the given objectives, most videos I see show that after lift-off, the game shows an outer view of your ship and then Spirit states that she's spotted an enemy, but none of that happens to me. Instead I am left flying in an empty space where I can't even complete the objectives.

Any help?

You need to fly to the various objective points in the mission. There is a button (A I think) that will engage the auto-pilot so you don't have spend forever getting to the next point.

Don't forget to tell your wingman to engage the enemy. Otherwise they'll just stay in wing formation.
