How do I reduce the choppiness in the game? I assume this would be reduce the frameskip in Dosbox?

Launch the "Graphics mode setup" program in the Privateer folder, try changing the output to surface or overlay.

Another thing to edit in the dosboxpriv.conf for sound choppiness is the following:

[mixer]
nosound=false
rate=44100
blocksize=1024
prebuffer=50

[sblaster]
sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
sbmixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplemu=default
oplrate=44100

The graphics mode setup will launch, but upon trying to save my settings, it says the game is not installed. I have the game installed to my D drive, where I keep all my games. I am running Win 7 64 bit if that helps.

You're not the first one to encounter this problem. :) If you run it from the Start Menu, it works fine. For some reason, it doesn't like running from the exe.

This is because the graphic mode setup is the same across all games, with the Start Menu shortcut passing a parameter (in this case GOGWINGCOMMANDERPRIVATEER) telling it which game is being configured.

Actually, you can set all "rates" to 22050. It will make everything a little smoother and all audio in Privateer is 22050 anyway.
