Maybe this has been asked before, but isn't Alt-Tab working for the first Wasteland? I can e.g. Alt-Enter it to switch between the window and full-screen mode (but that also sometimes fails, sometimes the game apparently records it only as pressing Enter inside the game), but Alt-Tab out of the game doesn't seem to work, even in the windowed mode.

How is the game even able to prevent Alt-Tab? Any workaround for this? If I want to get to the Windows desktop without quitting the game, the only way I've found is to press Alt-Enter one or more times, until it goes to windowed mode, mouse focus out of the Wasteland window.

This in Windows 7/64bit.

Also, is this a complete "remake" of the game? I was expecting this is the original Wasteland running in e.g. DOSBox, but apparently not (as then Alt-Tab shouldn't cause any problem). I didn't see anything pointing to DOSBox in the game directory either.

Besides the background music and some smoothed out fonts/graphics, are there any meaningful differences between this remake(?) and the original Wasteland running in DOSBox?

I don't remember the game giving problem with the Alt-Windows, but then I usually played in window mode.

And not, the remake is a minimum, being the main modification the fact you has all the dialogues in game, instead of having to read the book.

By the way, if I remember well, InXile made the new version of the Wasteland 1, so everything that is important is preserved, and everything that could be benefited from the "remaster" is benefited.

It still is at it's core. You should be able to rip out the "raw" version if you so desire.

You mean Windows-Tab? I tried that too, it doesn't work either, particularly with this game.

Maybe I need to try it on other PCs too, but at least on this HP laptop (Windows 7/64bit), Alt-Tab doesn't work for some reason with GOG Wasteland. It does nothing, even if the game is running in Windowed mode (the mouse focus stays in the window, and I can't move the mouse out of the game window). I don't recall having this problem with any other game or application I've run on this. Can the game somehow prevent Alt-Tab purposely?

Alt-Enter works at least part of the time, ie. I am able to switch between full-screen and windowed mode, at which point I also regain the desktop mouse pointer (focus outside of the game window). Even that fails sometimes, ie. the game just regards it as pressing Enter inside the game. Usually doing Alt-Enter a second time then switches the mode.

I don't think at least a DOSBox game could prevent Alt-Tab (unless DOSBox itself prevents it somehow). No idea of New Vegas, does it really prevent Alt-Tab?

I didn't even know a Windows application could prevent that, anymore than they could prevent me from Ctrl-Alt-Del, or pushing the power button. Can they? Not in this case, I think (IIRC, I had a Firefox web browser running at the same time, with a Wasteland FAQ on creating a good party). The focus still stays in the Wasteland game, even if it is running in a window. it is as if Alt-Tab is disabled altogether (unless I am able to switch the focus out of Wasteland in some other way, e.g. with Alt-Enter).

Should I take this then that I am the only one seeing this issue with GOG Wasteland specifically? If so, then it is apparently something on this PC. I haven't seen this issue on any other game/app yet on this, but maybe I need to try it on other PCs too, to see if the problem is reproduced there.

No, you're not only one ("special") who is experiencing that bug. I can't use Alt+Tab too (even if browser is opened but not minimized in background). I forgot about this because I've played in a window mode.

Hopefully we can use Alt+Enter to switch between fullscreen mode and windowed mode. Better this then nothing...

Yes my error (Windows + tab), but now the problem that you and tPR are having are very different to what I experienced.
I never had problems with the windowed mode, my cursor come in and out of the game without problem, I used an Windows 8 64 bits and the Wasteland installation was free of mods

I tried GOG Wasteland also on my other PC (also Windows 7/64bit; I don't currently have a working installation of Windows 8.1), and i have the exact same problem there. That is:

- When I am in the game, Alt-Tab nor Windows-Tab does absolutely nothing. It is the same whether I run the game in a fullscreen or a windowed mode (mouse focus in the game window). I'm totally locked into the game, until I quit it.

- I can switch between full-screen and windowed mode though, with Alt-Enter. But even that works sometimes erratically, ie. if I am in the game main screen (overview map) of Wasteland in full-screen mode, the game just considers Alt-Enter as pressing Enter inside the game, ie. it runs the currently highlighted game command (e.g. "Order"). I have to cancel that game command with Esc, and then pressing Alt-Enter a second time changes the display mode.

So it seems at least in Windows 7 the game intercepts and cancels all Alt-Tab key presses, and quite often (but not always) also Alt-Enter (considers it as te same as pressing Enter inside the game).

I don't know if it works differently in Windows 8, since you say you don't see this same behavior there.

Oh well, besides this irritation, at least the game seems to work fine otherwise, and I can still get to Windows desktop or other windows, by pressing Alt-Enter (and Esc) enough many times.

I fixed this by disabling the autolock setting in the DOSBox wl.conf file. I *think* you can also disable it with CTRL-F10 in-game?

Relevant DOSBox documentation for the .conf setting:
# autolock: Mouse will automatically lock, if you click on the screen. (Press CTRL-F10 to unlock)

Find your wl.conf
Mine was in : C:\Users\ [username] \AppData\Local\inXile entertainment\Wasteland\wl.conf

Open the file in notepad and find:
autolock=true

change it to

autolock=false

Here is also where you can change
fullscreen=true

etc.

You may want to change the wl.default.conf in your install directory, but I do not know if/when/how that is applied to the actual wl.conf that is read in by the game in your AppData or equivalent directory.

You can also release the mouse from the windowed game by pressing CTRL+ALT+TAB (you can swap between windowed and fullscreen mode by pressing ALT+ENTER).
