Not everybody has 5 terabyte hard drives, and I find 30GB for HD space needed for this game ridiculous!!!

I mean Skyrim only took 6GB, Dragon Age Inquisition will only need 16GB, and the closest to Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin only needs 6GB! DOS talks about 100 hours gameplay, W2 80+hours, so I don't see how game worlds can be that different either! Certainly the UI looks similar!

I refuse to uninstall 3-4 games to play one game that is obviously very badly coded, so W2 will have to wait before I get it, however good it is!
It takes 22Gb on my install (Linux version), and that's not so unusual for RPG those days.

Where did you get that Divinity: Original Sin only takes 6Gb ? Just the installer is 9Gb.

If you look at installer size (game size about 2x as much is typical), WL2 is 10Gb, D:OS is 9Gb, The Witcher 2 is 15Gb, ...

Games (especially RPGs) are huge nowadays, it's painful for people with limited disk space (like you) or slow bandwidth (like me), but it's not specific to Wasteland 2.
Welcome to 2014 i guess.... Im not so worried about the install size, I wish they could compress the DL more.... 600-700kbs

Just about every sentence in the OP contains a factual error or irrelevant conclusion. The installed game is about 21-22gb. The written system requirements probably added another 50% on top of this to make sure computer illiterate folks do not think their computers are going to work with no spare disk space, or it may be a leftover number from before the art assets were compressed.

Wasteland 2 has a lot of art assets, though I think the real heavy weights are the texture maps. I'm pretty sure it is not the pre-rendered videos because they are compressed so hard they are full of artifacts and there aren't many spoken lines in the game.
Yeah, my windows install was about 22 gigs.

I've got plenty of HD space, but I do wonder why the game needs so much space.

I doubt it is textures or the quality of the 3d models. I have heavily modded Skyrim with 8k HD texture packs replacing just about every texture in game and it's just under 20GB. Fallout New Vegas with 4k HD texture packs comes in at 15GB. WL2 is the 2nd biggest game I have installed, coming in behind Battlefield 4 standard edition, which is 25GB.

The installer was about 6.3GB originally, and requested 9.3GB on installation. Later revisions added more content (in a recent patch) and more languages (with needless duplication of English voice files).
