If anyone was wondering, it is possible to use this release to play the original dos version (for running under dosbox for linux, android, ios, etc).

At the bare minimum, you need to place the following files in the same directory:

WL.EXE from Wasteland/rom
All files from Wasteland/rom/data

Afterwards you can simply run wl.exe in dosbox(or whatever you have that can run it).

Note: Wasteland overwrites the world in-place so it may be best to store a backup copy of the data directory (and grabbing the provided wlreset tool from Wasteland/rom/wlreset.
And what about new update? The game now copies dos-box config file to system path. Is it a problem for now?

And how about original windows -.exe? What does it perform? And wouldn't it be a problem for the game to run old dos exe-file instead of newer windows-exe?

To answer both of your questions, no it's not a problem.

DOSBox is a free open source program for running old DOS games. What they did with this new release is modify DOSBox so that it would intercept some of the stuff in the old DOS game and replace it (e.g. with paragraphs, new portraits, etc.) What that means is that every install of the new Wasteland 1 contains an unmodified old version. That old version can be run in plain dosbox, on any platform with dosbox, without any of the new features.

What monocle doesn't mention, is that InXile released all the code for their changes as well. So it's possible for technically minded people to compile that code and have the full new experience as well. A guide for that wouldn't be as simple to write though. I have linked to the source elsewhere.

Tried running Wasteland on my Nexus 7 (2012) via DosBox Turbo. Well... The result isn't satisfying :( It's too hard to guide my party because of some strange freezes. This looks like this way: I put my cursor near party, "click" to move, game doesn't respond for about half a second (it's not so much but it is very noticeable) and then my party makes "double jump", it passes over two (or even more) squares instead of one.

I didn't tweak *.conf file a lot, didn't try different settings. I only tried to change CPU cycles (it seems that greater amounts cause greater "jumps" of a party), setting them to very low quantity but it didn't help to avoid "jumps".
Also I found a link to an android keyboard with arrow keys on dosbox turbo site. So, you can guide your party with keys instead of a "mouse", but I didn't try it yet.

So, maybe someone already encountered same problems and has a solution or some advices. I will appreciate sharing very much.

The half-second delay(actually 300ms) is with dosbox turbo's default gesture mapping, with double-tap as right click it needs to wait that long to see if the second taps arrives before proceeding with the input, you can prevent that from occurring by setting the double-tap action to none, and use the two-finger action for right click.

The character double jumping is due to it detecting your mouse button as being held down for too many cycles(happens on normal dosbox as well), the "Enable Long Press" checkbox in the gesture mapping settings for dosbox turbo should prevent that.

The mouse-movement in wasteland is actually pretty spotty even on old PC's; The rest of the mouse interface works pretty well, though.

dosbox turbo usually tries to run at max cycles, and for a game like wasteland that is a bit wasteful, setting cycles low will make it run better, and improve your battery life.

Wow, man! Thank you a lot! You opened my eyes! I will try as soon as possible everything you've wrote. Thanks again for useful info!
Has anyone faced such an issue running Wasteland new update on DosBox or DosBox Turbo (for Android) when you launch the game and it just freezes in DosBox window? When I try to run the *.exe file cursor just jump on the next row in dosbox window and everything freezes. I can't type anything and the only way is to reboot DosBox.

Though when I ran original Wasteland 1 I have no problems at all.
