After the patch Wasteland (the game itself, not the Wasteland intro screen), runs in a smaller resolution.

Also I can see only this one config file but it is called wl.default.conf and in c:\gog games\wasteland (Windows7).
I see 1 folder with inxile entertainment in the appdata directory but it does not hold any file called wl.conf as it is mentioned.

Maybe both issues are connected with eachother.

I have Windows 7 x64, and just installed the update. A wl.default.conf file was added to the game directory, and when I ran the game it was copied to "%localappdata%\inXile entertainment\Wasteland\wl.conf" (copy and paste it into a Run box to open it) as mentioned in the file itself.

It appears that the file is not re-copied on every run, so my advice is to:
- Leave wl.default.conf unmodified.
- Run the game once with the default settings, so that wl.default.conf will be copied to the user location. You can quit when you first see the text-based menu after the splash screens.
- Make any customizations to the wl.conf in the user location, and *not* the wl.default.conf in the game directory.

It appears that the splash screen is not run inside of DOSBox, so its resolution is probably fixed and cannot be affected by wl.conf.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes indeed it seems you have to run Wasteland first to get the file to appear.

I am still left with the resolution being lower after the patch though.
And yes i fiddled with the resolution in the default config file at first as i could not find the other, but i have completely uninstalled Wasteland and then reinstaledl it. Then it runs at the normal resolution.
But then after i install the patch again, the resolution is smaller, unless i am missing something?

No idea. I usually run in a window because I have a spreadsheet off to the side to take notes.

You should be able to change the resolution of the game itself (but probably not the splash screens) by editing the fullresolution= setting in wl.conf (*not* wl.default.conf).
Yeah setting the fullresolution=1280x720 in wl.conf works.
Still this should happen automatically though.

It appears to have already been set to that for me in wl.default.conf.

There's always the possibility that it behaved different for me due to the fact that I installed the update onto an unpatched install that I'd already run several times.
Maybe it's just me, but I still can't get the game to play full screen on my 1920x 1080 monitor. I've tried tampering with the config file and settings, but it seems as though with smoothing on, the screen will only get smaller, and with smoothing off and the output changed to overlay (due to the fact that at surface the screen refuses to go full screen), I can get the game full screen, but this turns off the in-game paragraph feature.

It won't ever be fully fullscreen you will keep some black borders, but with this you get it as it is supposed to run.

wl.conf

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1280x720
windowresolution=original
output=surface
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74.map
usescancodes=true

language=
machine=svga_s3
captures=capture
memsize=16

frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=hq3x

If you turn smoothing off and set scaler=none, you can set any resolution you want. The problem is that the overlay hacks for voiceovers and such will not be aligned.

This also means that the game is incorrectly displayed in a 16:10 aspect ratio (instead of 4:3) because it uses a multiple of the original 320x200. There is no way to fix this without losing support for the overlay hacks. Fortunately the game doesn't look too bad at that aspect ratio.
