Without any suggestion how to solve this. Discourages me from playing it deeply. That's a pity,

I experienced the same thing. Four to five times in the two hours that I played.

Seems to be random as it happened when I was trying to create new characters, when I was clicking through the status window, clicking commands in combat and while hitting the Esc key to rest.

Haven tried the game myself yet, even though I've downloaded my GOG copy when it became available. Judging by the comments of some in that thread it seems like those random crashes pretty much go away if one stops using the mouse and uses only keyboard commands.

This is a legacy issue from the original game/DOSBox, which means we can't really fix it.

The only known work-around is to control the game using only the keyboard. That does fix the problem, usually.

That only works for Win8 but not for Win7. :S

I have been playing Wasteland (I bought the original when it came out and still have the disks to this day) for a very long time. I use DOSBox to run it these days. Is that what the GOG version is using? If so, I could probably take a look at the conf file to see if there is something that could be adjusted. I'm pretty good at getting old stuff working through emulation. All my games run perfectly. Well, as far as I can tell, anyway. ;)

It has a patch that should fix it.
