Apparently i'm not the only one who has lost a recruit upon dismissal. I've left Takayuki behind when hiring Scotchmo, but he never showed up in the Citadel, he isn't where I left him, and isn't where I had originally found him either. Just gone. No big deal, as he was a bit too melee oriented for me, but i can happen with others.

So, better save before dismissing, and go immediately verify the citadel before resuming the adventure...

I'm not sure what triggers the bug. Maybe not having reported his recruitment (but i think i did), maybe having dismissed two characters in a row (dismissed him for scotchmo, then temporarily dismissed scotchmo for that local kid). Haven't tried to reproduce the sequence. But others on the internet have lost Takayuki or another recruit the same way.

So, just. Be a tad cautious around that.
I can't find any of the characters I've dismissed since reaching California. Only the three extras I chose to bring with me from Arizona are still around. Is this intended?

Not, is a well-known issue, that is why some people are waiting to get a patch to fix the issue.
Ouch, that's pretty bad. Luckily I think I'm getting close to the end and will be sticking with my current party.
Okay, it's confirmed. I dismissed Scotchmo to recruit Pizepi Joren, and headed straight to the Citadel : Skotchmo isn't here.

So, reloading the careful pre-pizepi save. But that is one big sort of bug, there.
possible workaround:

When you first get a new NPC, if you let them into your party and then immediately dismiss them, they will show up at Ranger Citadel. Did this with both Chisel and Takayuki, and they didn't disappear.

I at least can confirm with Takayuki; he appeared in the citadel.

[edit]
After further testing it shows that, while Takayuki appeared at the citadel, after first switching recruits and then leaving the area, the other recruit (in this instance Ralphy) disappears. And if Takayuki is dismissed again, he also vanishes ...

I did that. Hired Scotchmo and dropped the least useful guy. I did notice when I dismissed him, he didn`t walk off. I expected him to start walking off towards the Citadel. That got me wondering if there might be a problem, but I never went back to see.

Whenever I encounter someone recruitable, I dismiss one of my npcs, enlist the new person and then instantly dismiss him/her and re-enlist the npc I first dismissed. Even if I don't want a certain character at the point of meeting them I still want them around in case I change my mind later. I've never seen them walk away when dismissing them though. They just stand around until I leave the map area.

Too bad this method doesn't work in California :/
Is there any information from devs about a fix for this issue? I have been checking up daily hoping to see a patch.
