Well there you go - I have tried the demo twice (once when the game was comming out and now again recently) and the game appears to have the large diversity in armies - even though they seem to all follw similar formulas they have a difference in style which makes them enjoyable.
It also appears to have an good mix of RTS RPG gaming in both skirmish and singleplayer campains
However whislt I accept that the game is dated, its controls seem a bit fudgy (just not slick and refind feeling) I sometimes feel that I am fighting with the interface at some points. Animations are also a bit lacking on some units (flyers show this up rather a lot it seems) and also its ai appears rather - braindead at times,
Anyway anyone able to give me more imput and experiences from the game to try and change my views - at $9,99 its a something that I want ot be sure is a good purchase rather than one I am willing to take a gamble on
I payed 30 dollars for this game a few years ago, and I have never stopped playing it. Me and my friends set up some epic Hamachi LAN games, sometimes lasting 5+ hours.
Selling points:
Huge variety in races
Your own personal "hero" character has a massive number of classes and skills to choose from, which is where most of the strategic diversity lies. For instance, you might create a "plaguelord" type character who is great at raising suicide spores and other infectious skills. Or, perhaps you will create a "daemon slayer" type class, which focuses on getting really rare equipment and skills from the "mini-quests" within each map.
Tons of multiplayer fun, if you have friends that also own it. It has direct ip and lan, and it used to have the Enlight Game lobby, but i believe that went offline.
Lots of building. I feel especially strong about this point, since rts' today don't seem to have nearly enough building for me. Dawn of War 2 and other new titles may limit the diversity in buildings to merely 4 or 5, making them primarily offensive games. But WBC3 really focuses on structural combat, creating endless amounts of strategy.
I hope these helped you, and I'll definitely be writing a much more advanced review when the game comes out on this site.
If you don't buy this game, you will be sadly disappointed.

Just one thing I'd like to add. Also unlike most modern RTS, this one doesn't seem to have any solid unit or building cap.
So many of them these days limit you to # of each building. And that number seems to be getting smaller and smaller. And then there's also a hard cap on how many troops you can have, which also tends to feel remarkably small.
WBIII, I've yet to have it tell me "Oh no, you can't build any more buildings." and every building adds 2 to your population cap.
So near as I can tell, the only thing that will restrict you is the time and resources.
The only thing that would make this game more awesome, is if it's campaign mode ran a little more like Dark Crusade, which it's still better than a lot of RTSs for the campaign because it's not "Ooops, you failed a mission, game over."
All in all, VERY good RPG/RTS hybrid. You units leveling up is a really nice touch.
Multiplayer questions. Can I Co-Op Campaign on certain maps? Is their only deathmatch? Expand on when you say tons of multiplayer fun.
Thank you Zolgar.

I bought
Warlords2 and 3 when it came out. I have played the game(s) at work and home.
The animations and age don't bother me at all. My laptop plays it fine also. I love gaming and update religoiusly but Warlords 2 and 3 are well written and still a fun challenge and resource friendly. For ten bucks it's a definite buy! Of course this is one opinion of many. The game works. I'm sitting outside in my yard under An umbrella playi
ng my level 22 Merchant now. Retirement gives me more time to game. GOG is a blessing for us long term gamers. I hope you enjoy it!
edit: there were builder updates to 1.03 from 1.00. Since then to my chagrin a .24 update was added thT PUT timer on all summoned units. That sucked big time. Tha game balance was fine at 1.03. The Summmoned units are now barely playable as they disappear eventually. I had the disc until GOG and never knew about it as I had choices to upgrade with it. This small patch .24 degrades part of the game and doesn't do squat for the balance which was perfect even though a bit uneven. I'd like to remove it.i'm really po'ed, no one gave me the option of removing it and it ws added by a player and not official. NOT OFFICIAL, DUMP THIS POS, PATCH .24. tHank You lobsta21atc mmmmmmmmmmm omcast. net.

I know this post is old, but FYI everyone, GOG has removed all unofficial patches and there is NO TIMER on Summoned units any more. GOG is the best!

I'm very happy to hear this! Summoned units having a timer was a massive let down for me.
