I'm running it on windows 7 at first I had some crashes due to having the resolution too high but now that I'm past that I have another slightly vexing problem, the game doesn't remember heroes! I go into skirmish make a hero, complete the map whereupon I get to allocate the points from the level up but when I go to play another one I just get take to the "create a hero"screen. Any idea on how to fix this? It would be much appreciated!

gilijev: *bump* I would also like to know this.
Did you install the game in the 'program files' (or similar named directory in your language) directory? If so that could be the problem. Never install old games in that directory on Windows Vista\7\8 .

That's actually quite offensive, but I'm sure it's just the Windows gremlins doing what they do. Like the Norse said it:

same problem play 1 battle in campaign mode, and then the hero is gone there is no way to save; makes the game unplayable

I am guessing WinDOS file protection kicks in.
Try installing outside of Program Files (say: C:\WBC) or try running it as admin.

I may be a little late replying but I'll test this, this might be it, fairly certain I installed it in the default folder.

having the same issue... i have to remake a character after each skirmish/sundered isle exploration i do. Yes, i say sundered isles because i can ONLY do that one quest, as the game cannot progress in any way. getting no help from anyone so far. :|

just did exactly what you said. uninstalled and re-installed and place into C. Ran as admin, did sundered isle and no change. this really sucks because they just fixed the game entirely, and now i'm having THIS problem. :( !!

Warlords Battlecry II just like 3 you have to have a Warlords Battlecry II folder in your My Documents folder on which contains your herodata.xcr if it doesn't have one create it manually

Not sure if this thread is still relevant, but I noticed that only "Ironman" heroes will not be saved. Every other type will. Not sure why.

Exactly. I have the same problem and I have all the files in the right places. I have 2 heroes already in place without problems, but the 3rd one being Ironman could not be saved/remembered no matter what.

Furthermore, the name of that 3rd hero, is written in a .txt file under Documents\Warlords Battlecry II. The name of the file is PreselectedHero. So it seems it is not entirely "forgotten".
