What OS? I had the same problem on Win7, I installed it on my account (admin + UAC) and it run without problem, but on another account (user) all I got was crash.

I tried to fiddle with access rights, but no luck here. I solved it by setting compatibility mode to WinXP-SP2. Not sure why it happens, because such new game should run wihtout dirty hacks...
As soon as I encouter the plants my screen goes black and I have to force a shutdown. OSX 10.7.5 on a macbook.
been playing it on my iPad for months with no problem.
Maybe just try to run the game as admin, it may indeed be an autorisation problem as the game has automatic saving.

As for the Mac version, I have no problem so far on 10.8.2.

XP-SP3 is what i'm using.
Pretty sure it has something to do with OpenGL. I crash on startup as well.
Gotta be a conflict with whatever OpenGL renderer version is on your videocard, and whatever OpenGL renderer version the game requires.

I'm on:
WinXP/SP3
GF 550 Ti 1024 MB, running on 314.07

Ever since I fried my 8800GT and replaced it with my 550 Ti, I can no longer play older OpenGL based games, mostly using the Quake 3 engine. To name a few - Elite Force I & II, Quake 4, Prey, Jedi Outcast, American McGee's Alice no longer work on my 550 Ti. Freespace 2 and Snapshot crash on start up as well. I'm slowly but surely reinstalling my older games to see what still works and what no longer does, and the list keeps growing. :(

I have a Radeon x1300/x1500.
Crashes on start for me too, says something about TextureManager.cp

I'm running windows 8.1 w/ ATI 4850.
