Choose gift boxes when leveling up and save them for transmutation:

Common Gift Box (white) x 3 = Uncommon Gift Box (green)
Uncommon Gift Box (green) x 3 = Rare Gift Box (yellow)
Rare Gift Box (yellow) x 3 = Legendary Gift Box (purple)

---

Don't buy weapons from merchants unless an especially useful weapon for your build is available. They're overpriced and often made obsolete by drops as you progress.

---

Keep at least one of each type of weapon: Some challenges require a specific type of weapon, and some weapons are better suited to some enemies/encounters than others. Also for variety of gameplay.

---

Don't gamble weapons. Sell common (white) and uncommon (green) weapons. Save rare (yellow) weapons to upgrade other rare weapons via transmutation.

---

Keep weapons with the "Extraordinary Luck" property, improve them via transmutation (so that they remain useful), and use them often. They will improve your chances of getting rare and legendary items.

---

Don't sell Destiny Cards. Save them for transmutation: Three common (white) versions of a card can be transmuted to an uncommon (green) version of that card, and three uncommon (green) versions of a card can be transmuted to a rare (yellow) version of that card. In this way, you'll build a reserve of useful cards and be able to experiment with different combinations or specialize your bonuses before encounters.

---

To refresh merchant inventory (in particular the priest who sells Destiny Cards), exit to the main menu and then load the game again.

---

Dye colors:

Blue = Blue
Blue + Blue + Blue = Dark Blue
Blue + White = Light Blue

Green = Green
Green + Green + Green = Dark Green
Green + White = Light Green

Red = Red
Red + Red + Red = Dark Red
Red + White = Light Red / Pink

Blue + Green = Turquoise
Red + Blue = Purple
Red + Green = Yellow

---

Medkit transmutation:

Med Kit x 3 = Greater Med Kit
Greater Med Kit x 3 = Superior Med Kit

---

Don't pull your hair out: Some challenges can be frustrating. Skip them and go back later when you're stronger/have better gear.

Some good advice there. I had actually come to post some questions on this myself. For instance the challenges, some of them really don't seem possible. Playing on Normal the first one which cause an issue was killing the giant spider and the columns in (I think) under 90 seconds. Even with high powered legendary weapons at level 40, I still take 20 or so seconds longer than the time given. And quite a few nearer the steam quarter also cause issues.

Another question I have is in regards to the destiny cards as you mention, you can get up to yellow, but cannot upgrade them to purple, so if using legendary weapons or armour then I those yellow cards are pretty pointless.

Final question, am near the end and my sword/rainbow gun are more or less maxed out and still takes ages to get rid of some things. Are there more powerful weapons around, or should I just complete and goto the next difficulty level (do I just move my character over or start out new on the next difficulty)?
The timed challenges give me the most trouble, too. Also, you're a few levels ahead of me (currently Lv36). But I'll give what advice I can:

- When playing Normal difficulty and attempting timed challenges, be sure to turn off all hexes.

- Read the Codex entries for each weapon. Weapons can inflict extra damage or status effects when used skillfully.

- Experiment with different Demon Powers. Sunray in particular can inflict a large amount of damage in a short period of time.

- Try the Cavalier outfit. Starting a battle with two uses of Sunray is fantastic. ;)

- Use bombs - in both slots if necessary.

- Some enemies have armor. Consider using Destiny Cards that grant armor penetration when fighting armored enemies. The Devil in particular adds armor penetration for each Wicked card in your hand (including itself).

- Experiment with different combinations of weapon properties and Destiny Cards. Max critical hit chance, or raw damage (melee or ranged), or Overdrive generation, etc.

- Watch videos of other players succeeding in difficult encounters. "The best way to train an elephant is to yoke him to an already trained elephant."

I do sell some cards as I find Divine or Wicked versions of them. But you don't get much gold by selling them, so I prefer to keep and improve the majority of cards to have a wide variety of options. Destiny Cards provide significant bonuses regardless of what rarity of weapon you're using, and the classless system allows you to change your hand at any time to specialize for particular areas or encounters.

Edit: This morning I played a bit with Chimera (the legendary hand mortar that GebaN sells when you defeat him in the Merchant Quarter). High damage, aoe. You might give it a shot and see how it fares against Rachnoss. Pump it up with some Destiny Cards of course.

How do I get to the cesspits? for the life of me, I can't find the door. There's a building with no apparent means to climb it...

Do you mean the Cessways? The entrance is the manhole (sewer access) in the road going to that building.
Thanks! I was looking for the secret recipes!
