I know this is a gog forum, but the actual game files once installed should be the same as far as I know. I have the original CD version, and it installs in windows 10 pro 64bit, and seems to run, I can get through the menu to the opening cut scene, however there is no sound. I have tried running as administrator, and in compatibility mode, with no change. Sound and video are both being outputted by HDMI. In device manager my computer lists two built in audio input/output devices, "32s301 (Intel(R) Display Audio)" and "Realtek Digital Output (2- Realtek(R) Audio)". The sales page says my motherboard supports 8-Channel (7.1) HD Audio through a ALC1220 audio processor, I thought this would mean I wouldn't need a separate sound card. Is the built in one not compatible with Directx 9c, or is there some other problem? The case says it is compatible with XP and Vista. Does this game need to run in a virtual machine for Windows XP?

There is a lot of information missing from this post, and a lot of potential points of failure to consider without said information.

Sure, there could be an issue with the game.
Sure, it could be an OS compatibility issue.
Sure, you could have set the wrong output device.
Sure, you could be misunderstanding your system's technical capabilities.

But to help we probably need to know more.

What we do know:

• Venetica original disc
• Windows 10 64-bit
• HDMI video output is working
• No audible output

To get started, assuming your speakers are on and the volume knob isn't turned all the way down—

• Does other audio (OS sounds, music, etc.) play over the existing HDMI connection?
• Is the HDMI connected to a monitor or television (are there built in speakers)?
• Have you tested output from the PC's headphone jack?
• What are the actual hardware specs and configuration?

Also, verify (in real time) in your audio control panel (and separate audio manager if you have Realtek drivers/software) whether the output device changes:

• ...when you plug/unplug headphones, HDMI, etc. potential output options
• ...when the game starts up

and verify that the designated output device, at run time, isn't muted and can play test sounds.

Sorry, for the late reply I was expecting a notification if someone replied. Now I know I have to look.
HDMI is connected to a TV with built in speakers, and is only video output connection available. Other games run just fine and play sounds correctly through tv. System sounds and web audio such that of YouTube play just fine through the tv.
Even games such as Simpsons: Hit and Run play audio correctly despite having to be loaded in compatibility mode after patching for the 64bit OS.

the Venetica version installed says, "1.02 (Nov 12 2009) UNPROTECTED" in small print at the bottom left corner on all screens. Since my disk is original, and required no keys/activation servers, I assume this is a complaint that it's copy protection has expired. I do not know which version GOG is offering. when the game is running it is in full screen mode, and I cannot get to the task bar or desktop without clicking the "close" menu option.

I started Ricochet Infinity to test audio in games that are working without compatibility mode, or at least it hasn't told me it is running in compatibility mode.
If I plug in headphones to the headphone socket on the tower case front it cuts audio from the TV and plays it to the headphones.
I unplug headphones audio returns to tv.
I plug headphones into the headphone socket on my usb keyboard, a Logitech G110, and audio cuts from tv and is routed to the headphones.

Interestingly When I unplugged the headphones from the keyboard the audio did not return to the TV. I then connected the Headphones to the tower front and still no Audio. Removed headphones still nothing. Computer still shows Audio as at 100% unmuted. I rebooted the computer. Reloaded Ricochet Infinity audio plays. Maybe I should seek specific drivers instead of the plug and play ones before using the extra functions on that keyboard.

The app volume device preference window in settings shows system sounds, Ricochet Infinity and one other program apparently running in the background all have volume at max and input and output set to default.
"• What are the actual hardware specs and configuration?" It doesn't seem this is listed in the device manager anymore, as I gave you that information. What system menu did this get moved to now?
32S301 has the monitor icon, and is listed under audio devices as a, "32s301 (Intel(R) Display Audio)" and "Generic PNP Monitor" Plugging in Headphones to the case front adds the device to devices and printers, "Speakers (2- RealTek(R) Audio).

The 32s301 driver properties window under events lists the driver as being, "audioendpoint.inf" published by Microsoft, version 10.0.18362.1, parent device: HDAUDIO, matching device Id: MMDEVAPI/AudioEndpoints.

I loaded a 32bit Win XP Virtual machine on the same pc. The virtual machine plays system sounds through the tv. The cd install menu had sound but the game just gave a run time error.
I bought the GoG version when it went on sale, hoping it would work with less hassle than the CD. It was even less functional than the CD. Now there is no sound at all.

Interestingly the GoG version is updated from that on the CD, just not updated enough apparently.
The CD version installed said, "1.02 (Nov 12 2009) UNPROTECTED" in the lower left hand corner.
The GoG version installed said, "1.03 -ENG (Aug 5 2010) UNPROTECTED" in the lower left hand corner.
Found out that if I have headphones plugged in before the game starts than I get game volume, but if they get unplugged then there is no way to restore the game volume even if they are plugged back in. Apparently this is an odd problem some games have with these intel hdmi sound cards. I messed with all the sound settings on my computer and tv, to no avail. I have read that a lot of the games with this problem can be made to work if the user forces the game to run in windowed mode, but I can't seem to find that option on this game. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am using a tv as my only monitor and speaker for this computer at the moment as it was the one of the concessions I made for my budget, so dvi solutions don't really help as my only true computer monitors are old vga screens. Also My tv doesn't seem to support auxiliary audio with hdmi.

I'm glad you followed up on this one.

To attempt windowed mode, try going to My Documents\Venetica\settings-user.ini and setting fullscreen=false

Thank you, that worked. I'd been looking forward to playing this game as something about it reminded me of the Devil May Cry franchise.
