Apparently the game will only let me play on the lowest possible textures because the computer I am using happens to be a 32-bit system?

I just dropped $20 on this. The store page has NO information to this effect.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? It would be greatly appreciated as I was excited to play this game. But I am about ready to contact support.

It's probably because 32 bit Windows cannot access enough memory to display the high res textures in this game.

But that does not seem right. Forgive me as I am not technically savvy... but I have played other games on quite high settings with good textures, on this very device. Or am I missing something?

I guess I could change to 64bit but that seems like a hassle if I want to keep my files.

I'm also still rocking 32-bit Windows, and the number of games which are 64-bit only is steadily increasing. My PC says it supports a 64-bit OS but my copy of Windows was a pre-installed OEM version so I can't simply "change over" to 64-bit, I'd have to buy a new copy of Windows ... which isn't cheap.

I was debating whether to buy this game now on PC, or hold out for the PlayStation 4 version that's due next year. Based on your experience of the reduced-quality version 32-bit PC owners are treated to, I think I'll hold out!

What you might try is looking at the advice given in relation to the game Outlast, here on GOG. That game doesn't officially support 32-bit systems at all but says it *should* run if you tweak a setting on your PC which allows 32-bit systems to address more memory. The system requirements box for Outlast (on the GOG store page) points you to a Microsoft article explaining how to do this.

Maybe the game will allow you to access better-quality textures if you tweak this setting? It's worth a shot.

EDIT: Here's the relevant line from the Outlast store page:
Compatibility notice: 32 bit systems are not officially supported, but should work if configured to provide 3GB of user-mode address space. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb613473

Thanks for your reply. However, I must inform you that the game, despite not looking perfect, still looks great. Very beautiful even. It is a minor drawback at best.

I actually really really like this game! It only took me about a day to finish it but it was a solid game, texture issues aside. I'm sorry if my comments made my experience seem bad, but really, I don't feel it jeopardized my experience at all. I still would recommend it even if you have a 32-bit system.

Just my two cents. Thanks for the comment.
