Hello,
I just bought V:tM Redemption and it is very very dark. I played this game on release way back in the day and I do not remember it being this dark! It took me an hour to get through the silver mines because I couldn't see anything. I remember back in the day being able to see clearly. I have messed with all of the settings, even cranked up the brightness and nothing helped. Is there a patch somewhere that can fix this? I googled patches and found some, but I don't know if the ones I found were trustworthy or even would fix the problem.

Thanks in advance!
Use a torch? Also, later, for dark places (there are many), there is a discipline. Two, actually. One is the same named, torch, in one of the Tremere discipline trees (lure of flames, was it?). Other one is of the Gangrel tree (protean, was it)? Discipline was eyes of the beast, if i remember correctly?

Down there are some war ghouls, though, so you need the shield. Quickly change between torch and shield for the tough battles.

In the nosferatu tunnels, there is a relic too. Hidden inside a fake wall. You need to cast heightened senses to find it. Using it as offhand also helps with visibility and making loot glitter, too.

I did use a torch, the only thing it lit up was me. I am in Joesph's tunnels now, and the lighting is a bit better but still very dark.
I agree with you on the incredibly low gamma setting. I have vision problems and I can't see a thing in that mine. Torch or no torch. It makes it a really long, unfun job to get through it.

Have you seen this thread? There may be something there that may help;

Hope this helps.
I just purchased it as well and can't see a thing. I have adjusted every setting that I can and still nothing. Did anyone figure this one out?

You have to use torches in the Silver mine--have to--otherwise it is pitch dark.
I have the SAME problem. Torch, without torch... Can`t see anything, the gama control won`t work and i can`t play the game due this. Can`t pass from silver mine because i can`t see anything.

EDIT ? There are a mod to put light everywhere????

For the darker places, I go to my desktop, right click on the screen, and change brightness from 50% to 100%. Then reenter the game.
I had the same problem, and it took a while, but I figured it out with the help of another thread. You need to get Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6 (ACT) once installed follow the following steps

1.) Run Compatibility Administrator (32-bit)

2.) In the side panel, click on the "New Database(1) [Untitled_1]" then On the toolbar choose Fix

3.) Fill in the following information then press next:
Name of the program to be fixed:
"Vampire the Masquerade - Redemption"

Name of the vendor for this program:
"White Wolf Studio"

Program file location:
Browse to your install directory and choose Vampire.exe

4.) Skip Compatibility Modes and press Next

5.) On Compatibility Fixes choose DxPrimaryEmulator, make sure it is checked and highlighted and press the button Parameters. Where it says Command Line, enter "-DisableMaxWindowedMode" Choose okay, and if it says -DisableMaxWindowedMode in the Command Line Column, congrats, you did it right.

6.) Press Test Run. If you can now adjust the brightness then the game is fixed. You only need to finalize the changes.

7.) Quit the game and return to ACT, you can either press Next or you can add NoGDIHWAcceleration. I find it made the game play a lot easier. If you add it, repeat step 6 to make sure it works.

8.) Ignore the next page and press Finish, you are not done though.

9.) Go to File>Install.

Once installed the fix will always work with the game. You are now done

I went through the steps because the original links you to look to a guide that no longer exists. I hope this helps someone.
hm... i tried everything and nope didn't work for me so i had to use the torch in the first dungeon to stumple around.

I HOPE that this issue will not be a big problem later :-( othrwise i'll have to skip this game

I tried ProjectDT8's Solution and it worked for me.
But there was one problem.
Everytime i quit the game the game will freeze and i have to press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to open the taskmanager.

I found a better solution.
Download this.
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2_55_4_1.zip
Open the Zip File and extract the following files in to your VtM: Redemption folder.
D3D8.dll
D3Dlmm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodoo.conf
dgVoodooCpl.exe

Don't create a MS folder. All 5 Files have to be in the same folder where your Vampire.exe is located.

Start the game and you should see a dgVoodoo Logo in the lower right corner of the main menu.
Go to Options -> Display and try to change the brightness.
If your display brightness goes up and down then it works.
Exit the game.

Start dgVoodooCpl.exe and press the "DirectX" Button.
uncheck "dgVoodoo Watermark" in the lower right corner and then press ok.

You can now play.

If you play older games with directx 7 and older and you have problems then always try dgVoodoo.
I use it in a lot of older games.
Mostly to get more fps.

Many thanks for this, I will definitely give it a go. This darkness was such a PITA and was the reason I deleted the game never to try it again.

You can play with this solution pretty well.
If you still have problems with dark corners then start dgvoodoocpl.exe and activate "Inherit Color Profile In Full Screen Mode" in the lower left corner and press ok.

That should make dark corners more visible.
For me this works great.

You can change brightness contrast and color too.

Thanks, looking forward to reinstalling and giving this all a go :)
