When I save my game, I cannot overwrite previous saves. It gives me the warning about overwriting saved games, and I click OK and give it a name, but when I go back to the loading screen, the previous save has not been overwritten and my progress has been lost. This applies to normal save slots and the autosave.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me.
Only a slight irritation, deleting savegames by hand is not very complicated. But still I would like a solution.

Checking WinXP SP3 compatibility with "Run as Administrator" fixed it for me, but the savegames will be stored in the folder where the game has been installed (default c:\program files (x86)\gog.com\vampire the masquerade - redemption\savegames\), not in the "Virtual Store"-path mentioned above.
I did not check to see if moving my savegames to the new folder made the old saves available for me (I only had 4 minutes in the game, I just started a new game).
Problem solved for me.

I'm running Vista and had the same problem. I tried running as admin as suggested (without any other modifications) and everything fixed itself- the old buggy saves don't show up, but I could make new ones that worked as normal and showed up properly whenever it was run as admin.
So there's probably a better solution, and I guess it doesn't work on W7, but it's something. Thanks.

the admin run isn't working for me..mabye because i'm using a laptop, or because i can't seem to work it properly, but either way...

The above "solutions" did not work for me. I've got Vista 64 bit here. I did manage to get save game overwriting to work though thanks to the patch readme in the folder.
Here's what I did:
Right-click on the SaveGames folder,
click "Advanced",
and then check "Index this folder for faster searching" and apply it to all sub folders.
I've tested the game with Run as Admin on and off and compatability mode on and off, neither of which had any affect on this bug for me. The funny thing is I have indexing disabled for my drives as well as the indexing service. I hope this helps someone else out there.

I set the game to run as administrator through compatibility options under Win 7 x64 bit and I cannot confirm it. This solution does not work for me.
EDIT: After hearing from support at GOG, I found the solution earlier in the thread, which I had somehow missed. Indexing the saved games folder solved my issues, WIn7 x64.

I also have this problem. But I have disabled indexing service years ago and I'm running windows with Administrator rights.
I'm using Windows XP Pro 32 Bit SP3 with all the latest updates. Please help, as it is ner impossible to complete the game with this bug.

maul, you need to turn on indexing for the game folder and all of its subfolders. Unless you do that, it will not let you overwrite saved games.

My God! I feel so stupid! :D I misread some info elsewhere and disabled Indexing Service. :D

I was having the same issue with the save games not overwriting like they should. I merely copied the savegames folder from the path(non-admin rights save location) c:/users/YOU/appdata/local/virtualstore/programfiles(x86)/GOG.com/Vampy to the new savegames folder that starting the game as admin creates. c:/programfiles(x86)/GOG.com/Vampy. My saves that I copied to the new save location were imported without issue and they now properly overwrite. You'll have to fiddle with your display settings again, but it's better than starting completely over.
I'm using Win 7 64bit and I'm running the game with only admin rights.
I hope this provides some assistance to folks having problems on Win7.

I hate to be difficult, but I too have this problem and none of these solutions worked for me. d-:

I am running Win Vista as an administrator, and I have tried all of the above. My whole indexing service is disabled for performance reasons, and I will not be turning that back on just so I can save in this game (and run it at half speed); however, I did try checking the 'index these files blah blah blah' box: it didn't work. I've run the game as an administrator, I've checked and unchecked the read-only properties of every file in the Vampire folder, etc, and none of it has worked. Anyone with a little technical knowledge care to explain why indexing the save games folder works and if there is a workaround that doesn't require me to re-enable indexing for my entire computer?

EDIT: Just for giggles, I re-enabled indexing and made sure I was running as admin AND had the savegames folder indexed and I STILL was unable to overwrite my saves.

YES! This is what the problem is, exactly! The only thing we need to do is to find a way to find our save files and copy them and then paste them into the SaveGames folder so we can load them when we play the game as admin! I need a good solition for this because I've played for 4 or 5 hours and I don't want to start all over again! If I really need to, I GIVE UP! I'll just delete the game :/

I didn't buy this game on GOG but bought on an oldfashioned cd. It has been patched to version 1.1 and I'm running XP service pack 3. I've already tried the things suggested in this forum but I stil can't overwrite my savegames. For now I'll just delete all the oldest ones when I stop playing, that way I should be able to finish te game.
