Hello fine Gentlemen of GOG. I have the greatest respect for any individual that supports this fine site.

Anyways.

I bought Redemption and installed it. However every time I go to launch it, it crashes stating "Vampires.exe has stopped working" or something to that effect.

Ideas?

I imagine it would be helpful for me to say that I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise on a Mac OS - using the virtualization program Parallels ;)

I'm having no problems running my other GOG games though.

I'm usually the one needing help in these sorts of things - certainly no where near a techy but, when this happens to me (something similar), I first try unloading and reloading just to see if that helps. Sometimes it does. It may take a while but I'm sure that someone with real knowledge will read this and respond. Some other things that seem to cause problems on occasion: anti-virus software and Yahoo! Messenger.

Did it ever come up or did it simply crash the first time you fired it up? You may wish to delete the masquerade.ini configuration file in the directory and try it again.
Lordhoff thanks for the encouragement ;)

Yes, it crashed the first time I tried it and I reinstalled it. It still doesn't work. It makes me sad lol.

As a matter of fact I submitted a technical support question to our dear administrators at GOG. However, my message didn't appear in "My Account"...Am I looking in the wrong spot? I must apologize for my completely inability to do anything, I've only been a member for a few days!

I hope we can get you playing:) Have you tried right clicking and starting in XP compatibility mode? If this doesn't work, try going to the windows search bar and typing "eventvwr", it will bring up the system event viewer for Windows. Click on "windows logs" then "applications" and see if there is an event error listing for Redemption. If so, it may give you a basic idea of why it's not working.

Hey Signothorn,

Thanks for the idea. Compatibility mode didn't work unfortunately. However I've got the "event log" you suggested:

Faulting application name: Vampire.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x395bee2d
Faulting module name: rldirect.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x395be4a7
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption\Vampire.exe

Does that make any sense to you fine gents?

Looks like an issue with the directx DLL that the game came with. Not sure if it's related to how you're running it or not... might want to dig up DirectX 8 (if memory serves) redistributable and install it.

Hope this helps, this is my best guess looking at the module name.

Great suggestion but I can't install Direct X 8. Whenever I do the installer recognizes that I have a more current version. :/

What version of Direct X are you guys using?

I use the version that shipped with my copy of Windows 7, but I also run the web update tool every month or so just in case I'm missing any updated bits from DX9 etc.

I don't have the link handy but I believe the filename is dxwebupdate.exe

I have a feeling it's not dx causing this, though I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Did you use a download manager to download the installer? Tried re-downloading the installer and try again? I can upload the rldirect.dll file from my directory if needed but I'm leaning toward an issue with the installer you downloaded.
I used GOG's download manager...I'll re-download it but I imagine any issues with the software would have been detected with the initial file integrity check.
I re-downloaded it using the browser and reinstalled it. Unfortunately it didn't work.

Does anyone have any experience contacting GOG regarding a technical issue? Their form doesn't seem to be working for me. Any requests I send in don't appear in the "My Accounts" page :/

If you don't hear back from support in a couple of days, submitting a friendly reminder can help get their attention.

Do you have the ability to install the game on another pc? You could then transfer the directory folder to the computer you initially installed it on then attempt to run it. It will give you a better idea if it's a problem on GOG's end or an issue with your virtualization, regardless of the fact other gog games work on your machine.
