I've just completed the GOG version (which included the 9.7 patch) and it worked absolutely fine for me under Windows 7. However, I did encounter one bug with using the taxis and I wanted to post a solution in case others encounter it also:
Bug: When arriving at a destination in a taxi my character would automatically draw his firearm (even though he was unarmed when he entered the taxi), causing a criminal violation i.e. the police start hunting you. This seemed to occur randomly, but mostly when traveling to Santa Monica or Hollywood.
Solution: When you enter the taxi, right-click on the map destination instead of left-clicking (left-clicking draws your weapon in-game, so I guess this is why right-clicking solves the problem).
Other than this and getting stuck in a doorway, I had a bug-free experience and really enjoyed the game.
