Is it actually possible to consistently turn enough of a profit to continue playing the game in its current state? I love the concept and the stories, but I find the mechanics very frustrating.
I have started several games with different backgrounds, perks, companions etc. and always end up killed by my crew because I just can't get the math to work. It takes at least 1.5.0 per day for upkeep and supplies, and usually 5 days between towns, so you need to make a minimum 7.5.0 of profit per town. I've tried faction jobs, trading, passengers, in various combinations and I inevitably run the comitatus into the ground after not too long.
Has anybody managed to achieve at least break-even over more than a half-dozen legs of a journey? Or am I just not cut out for the mercantile life?
