I was thinking of trying this with the GOG version but apparently the creator of the mod forgot exclude the damn CD check (wtf?) and I don't remember how to bypass it and googling it didn't help either, at least the quick search I did.

I too have te same issue and support you in your quest to remove the drm... GOG states all games are drm free and we both have the same drm issue

The copy of vanilla Uplink we have is the DRM-free version. It doesn't even have the manual check like the older versions did :D.
