So UNREAL TOURNAMENT GOTY is free if we use Connect. BUT, aren't several of the potential free games via Connect on sale for about 75% off and you would rather give away UTGOTY than let us pay you $2.49 (or whatever the sale price would be)?

Shirley, I must be missing something?

It's free if you use connect and own it on "Steam".

The point of connect is to drive people to GoG by showing them how great GoG is by giving them free copies of games they already have - it's quite a clever way to a) build the userbase and b) drum up positive press coverage.
I agree with Pds41. Steam has flows, and mostly because of the forced 3rd party software usage. GOG.com lets you play the game alone without installing anything unnecessary. Yet -as much as I seen it- these games is compatible with the Steam servers.

The Windward and Unreal Tournament 2004 is playable between Steam and GOG.com. However there was games that can't connect like this.

All UT games originally used GameSpy for the master server list, and after it closed, Epic Games migrated it to their own infrastructure. Steam servers had nothing to do with it.
