My mouse does not work properly in Unreal Gold. When I move it up or left the pointer moves normally, but when I move it down or right the pointer moves much slower and when I combine the two directions and move it down and right simultaneously the pointer hardly moves at all. This makes playing with the mouse virtually impossible, because I have to move it much further down and right than up and left to produce the same movement in game and every 30 seconds or so I have to lift the mouse back so that it will not drop off the desk. I don't need to say how frustrating it is. I have Razer DeathAdder. It is not the first problem I have had with this mouse. The day I plugged it to my computer I noticed exactly the same phenomenon in Windows desktop. The problem disappeared only after I switched off increased pointer precision in mouse settings. It seems that Razer mice work improperly when acceleration is on. Previously I had Razer Krait and the situation was the same. Then I didn't know acceleration was to blame. I simply thought the mouse was faulty. Now I know all Razer products suffer from this. Installing the manufacturer's drivers doesn't change anything. I have disabled mouse acceleration and no longer had problems until I tried to play Unreal. Is it possible that the game accelerates the pointer, even though this feature is disabled in my system? Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this? And if it doesn't, what else can cause the problem? Playing with keyboard only is very inconvenient. There must be a way to do it normally. I know people play the game and don't experience problems. Maybe simply my DeathAdder is a piece of shit, not a mouse. Before I decided to invest in mice for gamers from a renown company, I had a cheap mouse from A4-Tech for about $5 and never had issues with acceleration or anything else.

Hmmmmm.
That is wierd.
I have a Razer Diamondback, and dont have this issue.
Actually, I havent had a single issue with it, in windows or any other game.
And this is my 2nd Diamondback (the first one I broke when I slammed it down on the desk :P).
I would say that this issue is NOT unreal's fault, since it happens/has happened in windows.
It may be your usb port's fault. Razer gaming mice require so much power from your usb port, and if yours is not able to provide all of the power necessary, this might the result.
Otherwise I would think that it is an OS thing.
Maybe it is time for a clean install?

Try searching the ini files in the Unreal/system folder. They are named differently for the different games but I think it's unreal.ini, unreal2.ini, unrealtournament.ini and ut2004.ini for each of the 4 games. In there are all the advanced settings, so if you can't find anything on mouse acceleration in the in-game settings, try those. I know UT2K4 does have in-game settings for mouse acceleration and smoothing, but the others I can't remember.
This is just an idea, though, something to check. I'm not saying this is going to fix it for you if the problem is your USBs or OS as Dave3d has mentioned.
Oh, another thing you could try is to not use Razer's drivers. Try the standard USB mouse driver for windows. Or if you have one, connect it to a USB-to-PS2 adapter and see if the mouse works then. Yes, this does mean you lose all the extra buttons and DPI resolution but at least you'll find out if the mouse is the issue or not and you never know, it might be playable.
Thank you guys for your replies. My OS can't be the problem, because I had just reinstalled it before installing Unreal Anthology as the first games in the fresh system. I am not using Razer's drivers. I prefer windows default mouse drivers and I don't care for extra buttons and DPI switching. I installed them only to try out whether it would be any better with acceleration. I forgot to say this but I had already looked through .ini files in Unreal system directory in search of any settings concerning the mouse. I only found lines about mouse inversion and sensitivity. I didn't find mouse smoothing, but this feature can be adjusted in the in-game settings. It isn't the cause of the problem. Neither are inversion or sensitivity. Nowhere are settings for acceleration. Apparently it can't be disabled. I also can't figure out why my USB port should be the problem. I've got normal USB 2.0 ports. Do Razers need newer ones? I don't think many people have USBs 3.0 in their machines.
In a few words, I've got no idea what is going on. I could try out this Diamondback, but I don't feel like spending another $50 for yet another Razer mouse. I think I'll give up and turn to other games. Again thank you for your suggestions.

I don't think you'll find anyone, barring hardware developers, with USB 3.0 as the standard is still only coming into completion, so it's not available to buy yet. It'll likely come to consumers in 2010.
Have you considered trying your PS2 port instead of the USB port? The USB-to-PS2 connectors are cheap and you might have one already somewhere - those for keyboards and mice seem to be identical and I do know of people who have used them interchangeably.
Are you using a laptop? If so try making sure that any pointing devices on the laptop (touchpads, etc) are disabled and see if that helps.
I'm also getting this problem. Not using a Razer, but a Microsoft Sidewinder X3, so if anyone has any solutions...

That's odd. I played it fine using a Sidewinder X3.
No idea, I tried using stock Windows drivers, and even tried updating the drivers. Still a no-go.
a lot of old games cause windows to turn the Enhance pointer precision on

I guess the best work around is to use this: http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.com/
Hello,

I had terrible mouse acceleration or smoothing or whatever, it was almost unplayable and not like I remembered playing this awesome game.

I then downloaded "Oldunreal 227 patch" selected "d3d9renderer" and "Raw input" (ofc uncheck "mouse smoothing" and "max smoothing" ingame)
The mouse is now 100 % accurate and the graphics are beautiful in 1920x1200. :)

For reference: I use a Logitech 518MX usb mouse.

Hope this help someone.

Hello,

I had this problem, too. For me, reducing the polling rate of the mouse helped. I had to reduce it to 125Hz. This should be possible via the control panel of the mouse after installing its driver.
