I haven't bought and played this game yet (as of this post), but, while watching videos of this game, I did notice one interesting game mechanic that I thought was clever:

If you get hit when you have more than 20 HP remaining, you take extra damage.

This means that, assuming you level up past LV 1:
1. Healing items give the most benefit if you are low on health. Of course, it is also risky to wait until your HP gets really low.
2. The benefits of being a high LV are not as significant as you might think. 40 HP doesn't mean you can take twice as many hits as you could at 20 HP.

Note that there is 1 exception to this rule, but that particular enemy can't do more than 1 damage anyway.

Yeah, I have seen the same thing while playing this game. It is quite brilliant game mechanic in my opinion :3
