Thanks for this, I ran into the same problem in Ubuntu 19.04
I got the package from xenial (18.04?) here
https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/libpng12-0/download
GOG should really add this to the installer...

You don't need it. Just delete all files under game/lib64 except for libsteam_api.so. What's referencing libpng12 is the outdated SDL bundled with the game.
On a side note, how do you change screen resolution in the Linux version?
