This thread can apply to it all, but right now I'm curious about rods.

I used to play with one of everything but I'm guessing that's overkill.

What is the difference between a spinning and a casting rod?
Can I use one for both?
And what about this difference regarding reels?

Thank you :D
I cannot sell my starting gear, so I use it in the fifth set with the smallest hook on a stand to look for exotic small fish while I use bigger ones for real fishing :)

Do you use a casting rod for spoons and a spinning rod for spinners or one rod for both?
I think it is not a matter of bait.

Just reading up here: https://www.dream-guides.com/blog/spinning-rods-vs-casting-rods

Spinning:
- for beginners
- the eyelet is under the rod
- easier to handle
- cannot handle too large fish
Casting:
- for runaways (Otto Walkes 1979 https://youtu.be/WrJPEqOWB48?t=26)
- the eyelet is above the rod
- harder to handle?
- can handle larger fish

Then there is fly fishing where you use heavier lines and different bait. The line is the weight and not the hook and bait.

Cool, thanks.
I think I'll get a good Casting rod and see how it handles everything before I decide on owning both.

I was just fly fishing, pretty cool and also caught a Brasse (bream). Trying to make money with carp for that river that is good for fly fishing.

Sadly, fly fishing is no fun for me.
Ice fishing is the easiest way to catch BIG fish fast and make lots of money. I don't bother with any of the other types anymore.
Leveling up is a breeze too. I buy all the best stuff now.

kind of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?

Well, what's the object? Leveling up and making money to upgrade yourself, right? Ice fishing is the way to do it fast and easily.

I thought the object was to relax, have a good time. What fun is there in just rushing to the end?

Success is a journey, not a destination. :D
