So you guys think we'll get these two games? Basically it takes the basic engine and gameplay of the series and drops it in new settings. One is basically the Lost World and the other being John Carter of Mars. Think it be neat to have these and would totally deck out the collection here.

I never played them, and would love to give them a try - especially Martian Dreams. And the completist in me would love to see them on my GOG shelf.

Have you played them - were they any good?
The Savage Empire is one of my favorite games of all time. I'd say it's even better than Ultima VI. The setting is brilliantly realized, and it's got some really cool survival and crafting elements.

Martian Dreams is interesting, but it gets old faster because the environments all look the same (red, red, and more red). Makes sense, since it's on Mars, but it's still a problem.
If you're a fan of Space: 1889 or steampunk in general, you should get a kick out of Martian Dreams. It's just loaded with Jules Verne-ish imagery and even some historical figures.

I'm actually less of a fan of Savage Empire, but that's just personal preference; I never really got into the whole "jungle explorer" milieu.
Well, they both run on the Ultima VI engine, do they not? They'll probably come eventually, but I don't see either of those games being very high priority on GOG's EA release list (since it's almost a given that if they were to be released, they'd be released together). I mean, there's still Ultima VII to think about.
I'd love to see both of these games get a release if for no other reason than because they are the red-headed step children of the Ultima Universe. What I mean by that is not just that they are in totally different settings, but the fact that in all of the "re-releases" and "collections" etc. over the years, we've yet to get the Worlds of Ultima games. As far as I know they both run great in DoxBox so it should be a slam dunk getting these on GOG.
Martian Dreams has the best NPCs, although I haven't played much.
I'd buy them as well, just because.. well.. they're Ultima, I can't heap enough of my money onto the naive dream of the series coming back someday (but only with Garriott at the helm!)

But I've never played them. Do they tie in the story of the main series at all? I know they're not in Britannia, obviously, but are you still the Avatar? Sucked into another world by a messed up moongate or something?

As far as I'm aware the only connection is that you are still the Avatar. And Iolo, Dupre and Shamino show up under slightly different names.
Bumping this thread!

They seem to have sort of become the 'step children' of the Ultima series. Even on that UltimaForever site, the banner has the boxes for the two UU games, but neither of the Worlds of Ultima games.

I loved them both, but I think Savage Empire stuck with me more. I just loved the idea that I was playing an Ultima game somewhere besides Britannia. The possibilities were endless, but unfortunately, they only ever made two. :(

They did at least help fill that two year gap between U6 and U7.
The better thing to do is to wait until Blizzard reveals their nextgen MMO. That's ultimately going to drive the industry. If it turns out to be a FPSMMO there's no sense in spending millions developing yet another MMORPG. As cool as the Ultima series are, there's simply too much MMO clutter right now, and especially within the fantasy genre.

I wish GOG would release Martian Dreams, I have a boxed copy but it comes in 3 1/2 disks!!!
Sure wish GOG could add these 2 games! Savage Empire was a pure delight to play. Very humorous, highlighted by the tribe with the 3 Stooges running the show there. Martian Dreams was very intricate and difficult, like playing an actual Ultima. And there was one keyword that eluded me for months, until I finally found some hints way back then.

IF you liked these games, please check out the Crusader series here on GOG. They are essentially "Worlds of Ultima" games by Origin in a space shooter environment. Both games are very fun to play!

I assume you mistook the topic title. You do realize that Richard Garriot created one of the first mmorpgs, Ultima Online, and some people still play it to this day?

Is this topic about bringing Ultima 7 up to today's standards or about creating a new MMO? I saw "World of Ultima" and immediately thought MMO. I could be wrong. I'm wrong a lot. :)
