TheIronSky: No, I mean, the game asks you questions that have answers in the guide. Either you look them up in the guide or you find them out on the internet. I don't mean to say that "you need the guide to complete this game because it is too difficult," but rather that "You need the guide because answers to questions that people will ask you are located in there." This happens especially in Ultima 7.
hercufles: Sorry that I misunderstand then :), I have bought the first trilology for support for gog but now i play it it is fun but diffecult, keeping getting run almost on food and health and getting just enough gold to pay that uhm i knew i didnt had to buy that chain mail.
I hope im geting better at it btw i love the game controls if you know 1 then you know 1 trough 4, 5 i and 6 i dont know if it works also that way since i havent tried them yet. And i bought 8 but i wait till i finish the previous titles but i think that is gonne take a while.
Does anyone know if there were fan made patches for 8 or am i good to go with the gog version?
DCT: Depends, if your going for story then probably 4 since that is where the overall story starts while pretty bare bones in both narrative and gameplay as the first half is spent talking to npcs and finding the runes and mantras for each of the shrines, building up your virtues and recruiting party members but it's still pretty fun if you can get over the archaic interface. But it does make 5 a much more interesting experience since in five you will see the same virtues you help embody twisted and darkened as they become fascist law. Plus you will also have a idea of what Britannia was like before Blackthorn took over and turned the world into this dark and paranoid place where you have to watch were you go and what you say, lest you draw unwanted attention and find yourself imprisoned or worse taken to Blackthorn himself and ruthlessly interrigated. Yeah Five is one of my personal favorites next to 7.
If your going by what is the easiest to get into then 7 or 6 by far with 7 being a lot more easier then 6 in terms of interface and graphics.
As for mods just grab Pix's Ultima patcher it's a all in one program that has all currently available fan mods and upgrades such as the VGA and Midi Music upgrade for 4, the midi music patch for Ultima 5.

Also you can use Exult for Ultima 7 which is a fan made engine port for Black gate and Serpents isle that improves alot of the issues with 7 but does have one annoying bug that can cause items to dissapear from your inventory, personally I never ran into this issue out side of when I was using the serpent isle paper dolls in Black gate. But from what I heard it can happen so if you do use exult just make multiple saves.
hercufles: Those were very handy thanks but strangely uu 1 + 2 doesnt work with that program i select the map i installed but the program doesnt find it.
Nope there were no fan patches for 8, as far as I know the GOG version is fully patched and good to go, you will still miss a jump or two and all the chests are still rigged with explosive traps for some dumb reason(you would think Origin would of patched that part out).
As for UU1+2 do you mean Pix's patcher or Exult as Exult only works for Ultima 7 and 7 part 2. If you mean pix's patcher UU1+2 fix don't bother as all it does it set the game to play the sounds in soundblaster and music in midi but I don't hear a difference or it doesn't work as I still hear the midi sounds and music.
