If anyone still plays Ultima 9, perhaps you can help me out. I just started playing U9 recently. Haven't had a problem with crashes--I got through restoring the Shrine of Humility and most of the Buccaneers' Den side quests with only one crash. I got directions to the tunnel to New Magincia and the password for the tunnel. But when I get to the place where the voice is supposed to ask for the password, all that happens is that I'm blocked, as if there was a wall in front of me instead of an open space. No voice asked me for a password or anything else.

Anyone know how to get around this? I'm playing with version 1.19. Update: I had version 1.19f. Downloaded and installed the 1.19h patch, but the problem persists. The journal still says 1.19f, so I may have done something wrong.

are you sure you are in the right spot? the tunnel you are referring to will have a big stone face on the wall.

if you have already restored the shrine of humility, you don't need to even go into the tunnel. did i understand you correctly? how did you manage to get to new magincia without going through the tunnel?
Oops, my bad--I meant the Shrine of Compassion, not Humility. I'm now trying to get to New Magincia, and going through the tunnel seems to be the only way.

I'm at the spot in the tunnel where I can see the stone face on the far wall, but I can't approach it any closer and it doesn't talk to me. I saw a YouTube video where someone got to the exact same spot and was asked for the password.

I wonder if doing side quests in Bucs Den broke the main quest somehow. The pirate lady who brought me to Bucs Den did say I shouldn't get distracted by everything there was to do there.

Ah! i see. is there a spider web in front of you? i seem to recall having to tear down a spider web before i actually got to the point where i was asked for the password. the big spider webs won't let you just walk past/through them. you have to draw your sword and strike them down.

i just went back to check and there IS a big spider web that you have to hack through. then you should be able to walk a couple of more steps and the face will talk to you.

Thanks, that was it. The web doesn't show up on my screen, but I swung my sword at what looked like empty air and was able to walk forward until the face asked for the password.

RexLittle, when you get the chance, don't forget to mark gidgemuffin's post as the answer. That way, it's marked for anyone else who has the same problem down the line.
The heck of it is, if I'd just pressed the X key while standing in front of the space I couldn't walk into, it would have told me there was a cobweb and I'd have known what to do.
