no, not at all.

she gives a small karma boost. (very small--like 2 points)

you can totally skip her.

there is a very small side quest that gives a little karma for finding and returning her doll. (dayla is 5 years old) but it's not the end of the world if you skip it.

gidgemuffin: When you finally make it to the bottom, in the gem mine, there is a cart at the end of the tunnel that has 4 chunks of Blackrock in it. Don't leave without taking at least 1 piece with you. If you want to make the Blackrock sword then take all 4. Take the gems only if you want to. By this time you should still be pretty well set financially.

Do you have any more details on where there mining cart is with the 4 blackrock chunks? I explored level 4 of the mines, and the only mining cart I see is over by the column, and it was a big mass of blackrock but I can't pick it up. I found a smaller chunk that I could pick up in a mining cart on one of the upper levels, so I think that big mass is the wrong cart. I think there are some areas under water I didn't explore but that seems unlikely where it would be so figured I'd check with you first.

I have 1 piece in total from the upper levels so 3 short.

The place I am referring to is around to the right after you emerge from the water. You will find Ailuj/Julia. You should talk to her! After you talk to her, turn around and you should see a small opening into a short corridor. It's easy to miss. If you got some Blackrock from elsewhere in the mine, then you don't have to worry about it. There are also gems back there that you can grab if you want them.

Thanks! I did chat her up but missed the corridor. Do you recall where to find the sigil of sacrifice? I was thinking Julia had it, but she didn't, unless she'll only give it to me when I get back to Minoc/cove.

you won't get the sigil until after you get back outside. (laszlo has it) all the sigils will be found (or created) above ground. for now you need to find the blackrock crystal ball....and khelereth. which will both also be found level 4. go back out the way you came and take the corridor to the west.

and just a heads up--i had fat fingers again. i really need to stop replying to these posts on my phone. i'm sorry.

you are making awesome progress!!

did you manage to get 4 pieces of blackrock? you will need 3 pieces of it to give to the smith in Trinsic if you want a blackrock sword. if you want to buy anything from him, you will need to do that first. once he starts on the sword he won't sell you anything else.

before you head off to the dungeon shame, you should find Dupre's ashes find a way to speak to him. if you go into the dungeon Shame before you do this, you will not be allowed past the barrier in the column room. EXTREMELY aggravating stuff right there!!!

Yes, I got 4 pieces of blackrock. l left them in Britain but Raven seems happy to take me wherever I want now so I can just go and get them.
