I trained with the 1HD weapons trainer in LB's castle after clearing the shrine of comp.

Then I picked DEX for my upgrade after clearing the shrine of humility and honesty.

I just talked to the LB Castle trainer again and he said I'm not agile enough. I checked my vitals and I'm rated "adept" in DEX and rated "apprentice" for 1HD. This guy is full of crap.

Is there any work around for this bug, perhaps another trainer? I've only found one other but he's in Moonglow which I can't get to right now and he's 2HD and I really want to specialize in 1HD.

Thanks for any info!

I'm sorry to tell you that this isn't a bug so much as it is poor script writing. Keller does not teach anything beyond what he has already. I thought that was really aggravating!

The next 1-handed move won't be taught until you get to Valoria. Bummer. And then the last move is taught in Serpent's Hold.

The good news is that you are heading to Yew soon and you can find Raliegh for some bow training and then make a beeline back to see Iolo for the awesome Cloud of Death archery skill. You should do this as soon as you possibly can. It's a fabulous skill and it is the only way to defeat some creatures.

Are you bothering with staff training or no?

Hrrmm. Since I have magic for long range I thought I'd just train 1-HD for weapons, but if Cloud of Death is required to beat some monsters then it sounds like that approach won't work.

I haven't done any staff training. Literally the only training session I've done was the 1HD one with the guy at LB's.

Is Iolo back with Gwenno in their house by Despise?

Can Raleigh train me as a novice? I haven't trained with anyone else.

Can I buy a bow in Yew? When I last save I was already on the Yew side of the mountains so if I can buy bow in Yew I'll do it there instead of back tracking to Britain.

Thanks for the information.

I'm sorry, I misspoke. What I meant was that the cloud of death skill is the *best way*--not the only way to defeat some creatures because of it's longer range and the damage it does. There is one place coming up very soon (dungeon Covetous in Minoc) where magic will not work so you will need another way to deal with foes that aren't standing close to you. and don't forget to bring all the serpentwyne you have found along the way as well because poitions will not work there either.

Also--some creatures fly or swim and I found that this is a quicker way to deal with them.

You don't have to have a bow in your possession in order to learn archery skills (which is silly, i know) but there are a couple lying around in the bowyers house in Yew. If you haven't done so yet, go back and see Leon in Britain to learn the triple shot and then speak to Raleigh on Yew. Yes, Iolo is back at his house. He is around the side and up the ladder. you will hear him singing as you approach. He doesn't charge to teach you the last skill and he gives you a bow that is far superior to any that you can buy. (Longer range and more damage!) All you would need to buy is arrows, which are relatively inexpensive. you can also take any that you find along the way that may be lying on the ground.

i am sorry, i thought you said you had trained with 2 people in Britain. i must have dreamed it!

As far the staff is concerned, I wouldn't bother. I personally found them highly inefficient at dispatching foes. I only learned the skills just to see what I liked best.

OOOOHHHH and while i am thinking of it--while you are still in Vasagralem's house in yew, be sure to touch the red symbol on the table. the Gem of Death will magically appear. you can take it with you. it is supposed to increase damage during combat regardless of what fighting style you prefer! :-)

Thanks, much for these tips!
I think I probably said I found two trainers in Britain, but didn't clarify that I didn't train with the archery guy.

In any event, it sounds like archery will be helpful even as a mage, and I've got 6,000 gold with nothing to spend it on for now so I decided to go back to Britain and train archery. Now I'm off to Yew again.

Thanks again for all the info!
i really think you will be glad you did!! :-)

and remind me when you are ready to head to minoc--i have something i want to hip you to that you will definitely find helpful!! :-)

Heya! I'm headed to Minoc soon. What is the tip?

Thanks.
i actually have several--how much detail do you want me to divulge?.......

first, don't worry about killing Raxos. (the first citizen) he's a creep and you definitely need the key that he drops. there is a hatch in the floor of his house. you are going to need to move a chair to get to it. there is among other things, a necklace in the little hidden hole in the floor. take it!

did you get a "jade bracelet" or a "ghost bracelet" from a cave on your way to paws? if not--don't worry. you can speak to Irene at the outfitters and buy another one. she will also tell you about all the unpleasantness that has happened and all the riots and stuff. interesting background stuff. take the bracelet and the necklace to the crypt in the graveyard. it's behind the burned-out house. try to ignore the specter as best you can and go inside the crypt is a casket that is open and sticking out of the wall. drop the jewelry into the casket.

anyway, after you kill Raxos and get his key, you can open the door behind the guard. this will free Nico--the mage who has a shop in Britain AND he will give you the Orb of the Moons!! this will allow you to travel freely and quickly to any town that has a cleansed shrine--thus far that means Britain, New Magincia, Moonglow, and Yew. if you travel to another place, Raven will automatically be waiting for you at the nearest dock!

how's this for a start? let me know if you need any more info and let me know before you head to covetous. i have a couple more tips for you before you go.

The Orb of Cheating??!!! LOL

That's what is was dubbed in the awesome incredibly hilarious riff fan game "Ultima IV Part 2"

I don't mind using Raven as my taxi but it will be handy if I ever have to go back to Yew or somewhere with no dock close by.

I'm about to go into Covetous and you mentioned having some tips there. A bit less detail would be great, I like vague hints so I can be sure not to leave the area without resolving them, and can ask for more info if I can't figure things out.

Thanks!

Ok, first--did you find Gringolet yet? You must have it in order to get down past the 1st level. It's in minoc so you don't have to search all over Britannia for it.

Remember--magic does not work in Covetous. Potions are useless as well. Bring your serpentwyne.

The place is crawling with skeletons. Just a heads up. (I hate fighting those things!!)

When you finally make it to the bottom, in the gem mine, there is a cart at the end of the tunnel that has 4 chunks of Blackrock in it. Don't leave without taking at least 1 piece with you. If you want to make the Blackrock sword then take all 4. Take the gems only if you want to. By this time you should still be pretty well set financially.

These are the major points I wanted to mention. Please let me know if you need any more info.

Good luck!

No, Is Gringolet a person or an item? As best I can tell I talked to everyone in cove and the gypsy camp.

Thanks for the info.

I completed this part. Thanks, I never would have figured this out.

Do you remember how you first figured this out? Was there any clue anywhere that triggered you to remember the ghost bracelet found presumably long ago in paws?
Gringolet is a weapon. a cutlass to be precise.

have you found Julia's hideout yet?

Alara should have told you where Julia's cave is. you will find Gringolet if you turn around and go in the opposite direction. just follow the river......
have you spoken to Dayla yet?

she will tell you about "the bad night" and about how people stole stuff from the tomb and "won't give it back" i don't think i would have known to drop the jewelry unless i googled the answer. :-( i admit that i needed extra help with this part.

i'm trying to not be too explicit, as you requested.....

Thanks! found Gringolet. Haven't talked to Dayla. Does she having anything important to say other than giving the clue about the ghost jewelry?
