I have the necessary reagants. What else will cause a spell to fail? Low intelligence? I've tried casting Unlock on sealed doors and locked doors but the spell fails most of the time.

The Unlock spell only works on magically locked doors, as I recall. If it's just a plain locked door or a sealed door, you'll have to pick the lock or have the key.
